Queen contest has six entries

ladies will be vying for the
title Miss Zurich Bean
Festival this Saturday af-
ternoon.
Representing the Bayview
Golf Course is 15 yeat old
Kim Bedard, daughter of
Bette and Dick Bedard of RR
CHRISTINA MILISON
2, Zurich. Ms. Bedard who
enjoys figure skating and
swimming, would like to
work withpre-school children
when her education is
completed.

three .year term
Zurich council has turned
down the idea of a three year
term for elected municipal
officials in Ontario.
At their meeting Thursday
council received a letter
from the City of Brampton
which has sought a long term
of office for municipal of-
ficials.
In aquestionnaire sent out
by the city, the village in-
dicated that they wished to
retain the present system of
a two year term.
The gears have been set
in motion for a revised
assessment of the village
with the ministry of revenue
indicating that they will be
proceeding shortly with the
preparation of a revised
assessment roll for 1981.
Council will be given the
opportunity to review the
changes and a tax impact
study before the assessment
change is implemented.
Council learned from the
recreation, parks and
community centre board
that the roof above the
auditorium portion of the
community centre was
leaking. The bollyd in-
structed arena manager
Jerry Rader to obtain
estimates for. the roof's'
repair.
In another matter con-
cerning recreation, council
received a letter from the
Ausable-Bayfield Conser-
varion Authority regarding
comments made at the June
council meeting by coun-
cillor Bob Fisher on the work
undertaken by the
Authority's Experience 80
students at the community
park.
The village enjoyed
a modest building boom in
July with four building
permits totalling $14,300
being issued.
In other business, council:
Approved the closing of
several streets and a portion
of Highway 84 this Saturday
for the bean festival.
Received a letter from the
Huron County planning
department recommending
that before another ex-
tension of the draft plan for
the subdivision proposed by
Zurich Developments is
granted, a review of the
village's sewage system. be
undertaken.
Learned that there were no
vacancies or applications for
accommodation at the
village's senior housing unit.
Only one
accident
Only one minor injury was
reported in the four ac-
cidents investigated this
week by the Exeter OPP.
The injury resulted from a
Friday collision involving
vehicles driven by Kenneth
Hutchison, Stratford, and
Gerald Bechler, RR 1 Zurich
at Huron Road 11 and High-
way 83.
Hutchison sustained minor
injuries and total damage
was. estimated at $1,200 by
Constable Don Millson.
There were two accidents
on Tuesday, the first oc-
curring near the Exeter
dump on concession 4-5 of
Hay just north of Highway
83. A vehice driven by Steven
Durston, Lucan, ran over a
wheel on the road and the
driver lost control of his
vehicle and struck a tree.
Damage was set at $650 by
Constable Al Quinn.
The other Tuesday
collision occurred onUsborne
concession 12-13 at sideroad
10-11 and involved vehicles
operated by Gregory
Flowler, RR 2 St. Marys, and
Lloyd Brintnell, RR 6 St.
Marys.
Constable Jim Rogers
investigated and set damage.
/it $1,300.
On Monday, a vehicle
driven by Bradley Abel,
Woodham, stalled on High-
way 23 just north of Fish
Creek and when the hood
was raised, the engine burst
into flames.
Damage from the
resulting fire was listed at
$500 by Constable Don
Mason.
WRONG FIRM
In last week's Citizens
News it was erroneously
reported that the steeple at
St. Peter's Lutheran Church
was painted by McCann
Construction of Dashwood.
The steeple was actually
painted by Mike McCann of
Grand Bend and Joe Regier
of Mt. Carmel.

Hensall resident Julie
Ingram will be representing
William's Hairstyling of
Hensall in the competition.
Julie enjoys many sports and
is very interested in
photography as a career.
The 18 year old is the
daughter of Pauline and Ray
Ingram of RR 2, Hensall.
Carrying the banner for
Oesch's Shoe Store is
Christina Millson, 17, of RR 2
Zurich. The daughter of Jean
and Raymond Millson enjoys
craft work. She hopes to
attend either college or
university.
Michelle Regier 15, of RR
2, Zurich will be represen-
ding the Tenderspot in the
Queen contest. Ms. Regier
enjoys playing the guitar and

plans on attending an
community college in either
an institutional career or
secretarial program. Ms.
Regier is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Regier of RR 2,
Zurich.
Having the honour of
representing Dashwood's
Friedsburg Days at the Bean
festival is 16 year old Deb
Taylor, daughter of Mary
Jane and Jack Taylor of RR
3, Exeter. Ms. Taylor who is
also sponsored by Its A
Small World Travel Agency
of Exeter plans a career in
travel.
