Sixteen area teams competed in the two day event, which was sponsored jointly between the Stanley Steamers Slo-Pitch Team and Molson's Breweries. Winners in the Preliminary round entered the 'A' division, while losers were relegated to 'B' division play. The first round scores are as follows: Zurich Cobras 18 - Bayfield Knighthawks 14; Winthrop Warriors 10 - Stanley Steamers 6; Bayfield Flyers 14 - Crediton Farmers 4; Crediton Cowboys 10 - Old Homestead 2; Kirkton 10 - Bluewater Lakers 5;Win- throp Oilers 7 - Easton Trailers Ltd. 0; Dashwood Ganilers 7 - Mitchell BP's 5 and Pine Lake 15 - Centralia Marauders 1. In the second round in the division the scores were: Cobras 12 - Warrior's 3; Cowboys 7 - Flyers 5; Oilers 12 - Kirkton 5 and Gamblers 11 - Pinelake 8. The "B" division scores ,were: Knighthawks 8 - Steamers 7; Farmers 8 -Old Homestead 5; Lakers 11 - Easton 4 and B.P.'s 16 - Centralia 2. In the "A" semi-finals the Cobras defected the Cowboys 8-3 and the Gam- blers edged the Oilers .8-7. The "B" semi-finals saw the Knighthawks double up the Farmers 14-7 and the B.P.'s thumped Lakers 15-0. In the A Championship the Zurich Cobras defeated the Dashwood Gamblers 9-3. The B Championship game saw the Bayfield Knighthawks trounce the Mitchell B.P.'s 22-0. Throughout the first 20 games of the tournament a hat was awarded to the Most 'Valuable Player (MVP) from each team, and all home run hitters (HR) also received a hat. These prizes were donated by: W.G. Thompson and Sons, Hen- sall, Ross Scott Fuels, Brucefield, Hully ' Gully, Varna, Varna Feed Mill, Chipman Chemicals, Varna, H. Lobb and Sons, Clinton, T.B. Allen, Londesboro; Hensall -Co-op, Mel Gingerich, Pioneer Seeds, Shanz Farm Automation. A few of the_ ball teams alio donated a team hat to the table. The winners of these fine hats for being MVP to their team are as follows : Knighthawks ; Greg Butler, Gil Latimer and John Graham. . Cowboys: K. Gover, Dennis Pfaff and Bob Webb. Farmers: Kevin Davey, D. n Lamport, and Paul Hodgins. Flyers: Gary Potter and Kevin Shiels ; Steamers: Bob Norman and Bill Chipchase. Cobras :' Roger Finkbeiner (2), Mike Masse. Old Homestead: Brian Bromby and P. Brady: Warriors : Rick Hum- phries and Gord Pryce.. Kirkton: Dale Skinner and Rick Bradford. Oilers: Neil Beverman, Glen Beverman and Al Keeler. Gamblers: Will Coeck, Bob Ford and Lorne Merner. Pine Lake: Lee Vyse and Pete DeShuter. Lakers:. tternie Denomme, Clarence Rau and "Jerbel Hellamn. Eastons: Paul Brannon and Daryl Finkbeiner B.P.'s: Bill Murphy, Gil Deelan arid Bob Parkinson. Marauders: • Bob Fink- beiner and Ron Funston. The M.V.P. from the winning team in the 'A' final was awarded a jacket donated by Milton Dietz, which went to Mike Masse of the Zurich Cobras. The- M.V.P. from the winning team in the 'B' final was awarded a belt buckle, COBRAS WIN STANLEY TOURNAMENT - The Zurich Cobras took the A division of the Stanley Steamers slo-pitch tour- nament with a 9-3 win over Dashwood in the -tournament final Sunday. M.V.P. from the losing teams in the 'A' and `B' finals were awarded a set of six glasses each, onated by Ken Jackson, which went to Don Hutson and Marty Becker of the Mitchell BP's and ,Dashwood Gamblers, respectively. - The MVP of the entire tournament Mike Masse of the Zurich Cobras was presented a trophy (donated by Molson's) . and was presented by Dennis Pelletti, summer representative for Molson's Breweries. The team with the most home runs, during the tournament (Cobra's), were awarded a new baseball bat, donated by Mery • Erb, (Agrico). The `B' champion, Bayfield Knighthawks received the `Stanley Steamers' `B' trophy, Bruce Horton presenting it to captain, Greg Butler. The 'A' champion Zurich Cobras captain, Mike Masse, accepted the Molson's 'A' Trophy from G. "Brent" Scrimshaw, Area Sales Representative of Molson's Breweries. Over 600 spectators came through the gate to watch the action packed weekend slate of games. Fact was, the tournament waL such a success, they're going to do it all again next year. Thanks goes out from the Stanley Steamers to all jbat participated or helps to make it a success n any way.
