Details Quebec
journey
ByJEROME SWEENEY
On Friday evening a bus
load of tired but happy and
grateful pilgrims arrived
safely back in Zurich after a
five day tour in "La Belle'
Province,Quebec, and of her
many beautiful shrines and
places of worship.
After mass Monday
morning at 7 a.m. July 7th
the little pilgrimage began
from the steps of St.Boniface
Church in Zurich the tour
was sponsored by the C.W.L
of Zurich, expertly arranged
by Mrs. Pearl Miller of
Dashwood, conducted and
hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Keith
Ruston of Seaforth.
Our first stop of interest
• was in our own province, the
city of Ottawa where we
were elegantly lodged in the
Lord Elgin Hotel just a few
blocks away from the
Parliamentbuildings and the
Rideau canal. Many of us
enjoyed the privilege of
visiting these areas of in-
terest on our own during the
early evening.
On Tuesday morning
after mass celebrated by Fr.
Mooney of St. Boniface
Parish in one of the lounges
given to us for that purpose,
a conducted tour of the
Parliament Buildings and
the city was enjoyed by all.
At 1 p.m. departure
enabled us to arrive in spite
of a slight detention?) at St.
Foy, a small city adjoining
Quebec City, in time for
dinner at the Quality Inn
where we were again
elegantly lodged for 2 days.
Many of the more ven-
turesome (not necessarily
younger or spryer) decided
then to go into the old city of
Quebec (just a short bus ride
away ) on their own. Of
course they did this because
they had with them a fluent
bilingualist 'one who "said"
she knew the city "well",
Sister Bernadette La Porte.
Sister promised to take us to
the Ursuline Monastery and
to try and get permission for
us to visit the tomb of "Marie
fain-
:of the Incarnation," fn-
: dress of the Ursuline order in
Canada, who is one of the 3
Canadians just recently
beatified by the Holy Father
in Rome.
So into the beautiful old
city we went. Down La Rue
St. John, and up and .down
and around many more
streets following Sister
Bernadette like a bunch of
ducklings getting hungry,
footsore and weary but
enjoying the City and its
people who were out singing
and dancing in the streets
celebrating their Summer
Festival. Finally we arrived
at the Monastery (all 16 of
us l and were granted per-
mission, even though it was
late, to visit it and the tomb
of the beatified.
None of us, I'm sure will
ever forget that privilege!
Thank you Sr. Bernadette
(we are glad you're an
Ursuline as well as
bilingual!)
Wednesday a day never to
be forgotten. We arrived at
Ste. Anne De Beaupre at mid
morning. Here we were all
touched and inspired by the
beauty and reverence that
surrounded us. Considerable
time was spent praying at
Ste. Anne's shrine and
placing our petitions before
her. At 10 a.m. Fr. Mooney
concelebrated mass with a
Redemptorist priest from
the shrine in the
basilica. After mass all
venerated the relic of Ste.
Anne and then had free time
to visit the museums, see the
