On Sunday the peewees edged Goderich 114 with Buddy Richardson, Trevor Johnston, Ted Hodgins; John McCrindle, D'Arcy Martin, Brad Steeper and Gerry Smith having hits. The winning pitcher was Trevor Johnston with eight strikeouts, Doug Schade picked up the save. On Wednesday Dashwood scored eight runs in the final SPORTS • SPOT by Marlene and Tony Bedard three innings to take a 17-13 win over the same Goderich squad. Providing much of the fire power for the local team were Trevor Johnston with a triple and three singles and Ted Hodgins with a triple and a double. Doug Schade picked up the win in relief and had seven strikeouts. The team's only loss of the week came at the hands of Clinton, 9-4. The losing pitcher was Trevor John- ston. Zurich rec ball The former league leaders the Pontiacs continue to experience difficulty win- ning lately as they went down to defeat at the hands of the Oil Burners Monday 14-11 inZurichfastballleague action. Leading the winners was Dale Cressman with three singles while John Gascho had a double and a single, Glen Gascho had two singles and David Erb contributed a double. Last Wednesday night, Dominion Tavern pitcher Richard Schilbe silenced the bats of the Sunsets as he pitched a one hitter to lead the Tavern crew to 6-3 vic- tory over the Sunsets. Schilbe allowed two walks and recorded seven strikeouts. The game was a close affair from start to finish, as the Sunsets lead 3-1 in their half of the fifth in- ning only to see the Dominion Tavern score three runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the sixth to secure the victory. Richard Schilbe also led the offense for the DT's as he had three hits, including a double, . In another squeaker the Tavern Boys' eked out a 5-4 win over the league leading Oil Burners Monday as Wayne Miedinger hit a towering home run in the bottom of the seventh to salt the game away. The game was again a close one as neither team were ahead by more than one run.at any time. Leading the way at the plate for the D.T.s was Richard Schilbe with two singles and a double, Wayne Meidinger with a single and home run, Ken Regier with a double and single and Brian Hodgins, Pat Bedard and Jeff O'Brien with a single each. Winning pitcher was Kim McKinnon as he recorded one strikeout and walked three. Losing pitcher Wayne Gingerich walked two and fanned four opposing bat- ters. Local teams in tournament This weekend two teams from the Zurich rec league will be participating in the second annual Seaforth Invitational fastball tour- nament. The two teams are the Dominion Tavern and the Sunsets. The Sunset's first game is Friday night at 7:30 aagainst the Seaforth Fireman with the D.T.'s first game being Saturday morning at 9 with the Seaforth Queen's Hotel providing the opposition. The Dominion Tavern are defending champions as they won the tourney last year under the sponsorship of Shaw's Minor soccer The Zurich atom soceer team pulled what could almost be considered an upset when. _ they tied St. Columbans 1-1. Previous to this game St. Columbans had won all of their encounters. The local boys maintained constant pressure in the second half with Kent Rathwell putting Zurich in the lead. St. Columbans tied the game on a penalty shot. Minor softball In minor softball action this week the Orioles defeated the Expos with. Darrel Gingerich having four singles and two doubles. Darren Alexander, Debbie Smith and Denny Denomme hit home runs. The Expos collected nine hits. The other game saw the Pirates dump the Cubs 21-12 with the Pirates scoring 12 runs in the bottom of the seventh. Rick Kuepfer had two home runs while Joe Vermundt had two doubles' and a single. Leading the Cub batsmen was Marty Merner's single, double and triple and two singles apiece by Mark Johnston and Jamie Durand.
