She was presented with a purse -size alarm clock and a card by student council president John Hendrick and vice-president Shelley Erb while president Don O'Brien looked on. BOWLING FOR ETHIOPIA - Sixty-five ARC employees and 12 staff raised more than $600 for Ethiopian famine relief at a bowlothon at Zurich's Town and Country Lanes. Proprietors Tony and Marlene Bedard donated the use of bowling shoes and lanes. Staff members Brian Decker and Wendy Patterson keep score while staffer Bonnie Jones (right) waits to bowl with employees Paul Consitt and Jerry Collins. Paul collected the largest amount of pledge money. . Family gatherings Mrs. Margaret Kalbfleisch spent the Christmas holidays with her children and families in Toronto - Brampton. The children of Florence Denomme and their spouses, along with her grandchildren, held their family Christmas get-together for 22 at the Dominion on December 23 with a turkey dinner. Mac and Jean Klopp returned home last Thursday after spending Christmas with their sons and families, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Klopp in Toronto and Mr. and Mrs. Russ Klopp in Milton Gen Doyle was the lucky winner of the Christmas gift basket from the draw made at the bakeshop on Dec. 24. Mr.and Mrs. Mozart Gelinas Sr. enjoyed dinner at the home of their grandson. Joey and Sandra Overholt and family in London on December 23 along with Keva and Sharon Silverstein and Rose -Marie all of London. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Schroeder held Christmas dinner at their home on Sun- day. Dec. 23 for family and relatives on his side. Our families gathered together on Tues. Dec. 25 to celebrate Christmas together. As usual we enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings along with the rest of the family ot Mozart and Marie Gelinas Sr. Othei- large family Christmas dinners were held December 25 at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Overholt and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Farwell. The family of Mr. and Mrs. Percy Bedard Sr. all got together for the holidays at their home on New Year's Day. Mr. and Mrs. Elzar Masse held Christmas for their CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD - Dutch attire was part of a presentation ot the St. Boniface School's concert. children, in-laws and grand- children at the Ilay Township hall in Zurich. Dan, Carrie and Tiffany Eybergen of Waterloo spent a few days at Christmas time with her family, Jerome and Carmel Sweeney and the Klopps. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bedard of Toronto spent Christmas with his parents. Gerald and Helen Bedard. ' Diane Klopp of Toronto and brother. Doug Klopp of Oakville spent the holiday season with their parents and family, Ilerb and Donna Klopp. .Juliette Denomme returned home on Sat. after spending two weeks over Christmas with her families in London. Marc and Cindy Gelinas and two children of London spent Sunday with his parents and New Year's with friends Pat and Jane Bedard. Sales & Service Authorized Dealer for Instrument Cougar Column New Year welcomed at Communlfy Centre dance A good time was had by all who attended the New year's Eve dance at the Zurich arena with music supplied by Mozarts Melody Makers, complete with hats and horns and a delicious smorgasbord lunch atmidnight, sponsored by the Lions Club. Golden Agers The Zurich Golden Agers will be 'meeting on Monday, January 14 at 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon at the township hall, followed by exercise at A "Happy New Year", one and all. Everyone should be reasonably happy with the great weather we are enjoy- ing, whether or not it will last. Many of our residents were able to spend Christmas with their families, mainly because of the good weather conditions. The month of January is usually a long, drab month, so the weather we have had will make it more tolerable. Residents enjoyed all of the entertainment provided for them over the holiday season, also the many treats receiv- Zurich Public School Students in grade 4.5.6 and 7 have been busy putting together the junior operetta. Nlost of Grade 5 and 6 are in- volved with acting and the choir is made up of grades 4 and 7. On Thursday. December 20, at 1 p.m students watched our annual Christmas film On Friday, December 21 grade 6 and 7 put on a special assembly from 9 to 10 a.m. All were welcome to attend. On Friday various classes travelled by bus to entertain the Blue Water Rest Home. The month has been very busy for students. All of us have been practicing very hard for the Christmas Play: The performances were on Tuesday. December IR at 1:30 and Wedncsday, December 19 at 7:30. On December 20 the whole school saw the annual Christmas film. As always the film was kept a total secret. Also on December 20 the SHIM'S Theatre Arts group performed for our 1-5 classes. The Christmas Dinner was held for grades 7 and 8 students and staff at Z.P.s There were lots of goodies such as turkey. mashed potatoes and apple pie. We would also like to thank Mrs. Desch for being such a kind, wonderful teacher and we are sorry to see you go. Happy Retirement. Mrs. Desch. 2:30. All Seniors are invited. Card Club Girls The Card Club girls (8) had a little holiday get-together at the home of Ina Neeb last Friday. Christmas Guests Christmas Day guests with Jack and Lenora Turkheim were Richard Turkheim and Miss Carol Biro from La Ronge, Saskatchewan. Mr. and Mrs. William Billington, Renwick, London. Bill and Marion Billington and sons l[enz dei p ed by both residents and staff. Mass was celebrated by Fr. Mooney on Monday, December 24. The Conservative Men- nonite young people sang carols throughout the Home on Christmas Eve. Bingo was played on Friday evening followed by refreshments. The Sunday evening chapel service was conducted by Mr. Peter Snell of Exeter United Church. Sunday morning, the residents were pleased to have the adults of the Zurich Mennonite Sunday school sing for them. • Mark and Jonathan of Lon- don. Highlight of the after- noon was the telephone call from their son Craig, (goalie for team Canada"playing in Helsinki, Finland. Grainget•t'hristmas A very nice Christmas family get-together was held at the home of Russell and Elizabeth Grainger on Sat., Dec. 29 at their home with'35 for supper. Those present were Wayne and Helen Horner with children„Came and Shelley, from St: Paul's Alberta and daughter Cathy Fawcett and two sons, Kent and Scott from Sherwood Park, Alberta, who arrived on December 27 for two weeks. Also present were Phyllis and Jim Ramer and three children, Jamie, Chad and Jill from Avon, New York State, who have been spending the past three weeks with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Ramer, RR 2 Zurich, while Helen and Wayne are staying with her Sister and family Mary and Richard •Erb, RR 3 Bayfield. Also pre- sent were Mr. and Mrs. Steve Grainger and family. Personals Best wishes for a speedy recovery are extended to Mrs. Marcella Dietrich who is a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter, and to Ward Neeb. Earl Flaxbard, who was a patient in Exeter hospital returned home on Monday. Frank Kane is a patient in Victoria Hospital. Dave and Carolyn Stark and two girls from Windsor spent Christmas with his mother, Mrs. Theresa Stark and her father, Mr. Keith Thiel and other relatives in the area. Carolyn also stayed in town throughout the holidays until New Years.
