Photo by Jack Doerr Annual Winter AL Time moves in only one direction Upon looking over old col- umns, I see that last year 1 made a New Year's resolu- tion to spend less energy on the unimportant things in life, like not worrying if I was wearing the wrong colours, if my shoes didn't match my dress, or if the house wasn't dusted all the time. Well, that was a pretty sensible resolu- tion that I may have kept about half of the time. This year, 1 resolve not to waste time. I'm sure •all of us become very conscious of time as we watch the old year fade into oblivion and the new one open before us. It seems such a short while ago we said hello to 1984; now, we bid it Alien, forever. I don't have any trouble believing that you are getting older, but it's with difficulty that I remind myself that I am, too. Wasn't it just the day before yesterday that 1 was 25? How come the young have suddenly become the old, that By MRS. TOM KOOY Holiday visitors in and out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Brent Caslick and Gregory with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Caslick, Cargill. Wishing all a happy and prosperous 1985. the years slipped away so quickly as the generations advanced? more is only a flash in the pan, so to speak, in the great scheme of our universe. Filter Queen "IN THE HEART OF DOWNTOWN VARNA" 482-7103 these were flesh and blood people, who lived, Breathed, w.orked, played and dreamed even as we do, and then were gone, even as we shall be. One hundred and fifty years ago, history was made without us. One hundred years from now, it will be be- ing made without us again. Today is our only chance. A little piece of time is all we get, and it moves in only one direction. So, the days, weeks and years that are alloted to us are precious, and fraught with power and possibilities. Any good we do on this earth must be done now. Let us, therefore, resolve, this year, to use our hearts and our minds to their fullest potential. Not all of us will make a great dint in history, but we can all do our best. Kirkton WI enjoy lunch The Kirkton Women's In- stitute held their December meeting December 13, 1984 at the Kirkton-Woodham Com- munity Centre. A pot luck supper started the evening when the members invited their husbands or friend. The conveners of the supper were Joyce Strahan, Phyllis Rodd and Doris Spence. The programme conveners Jean Ratcliffe and Janet Linden had a very interesting evening planned. A skit was presented by Evelyn Wiles as the bad mon and Janet Linden going to bed. Getting rid of her wig; glass eye; false teeth was enjoyable. Finally the intruder was caught. Doris Spence led in. Christmas songs. Guest speaker . Mike, O'Shea of Granton told of his recent achievement and had some slides of his farm which were so interesting in his far- ming operation, his buildings and his family. Draws were made for Christmas plants. President Phyllis Rodd had a short business meeting. The roll call "Name a restaurant that you enjoy eating at and why." Members name plates were given out. They are very nice, yellow with blue printing. The next meeting is January 24, 1985 with the theme as "Health". Have you heard about the four brothers, one of whom was a doctor, another lawyer, and another a minister? When someone asked the fourth brother why he didn't go to university and "make something of himself" he replied, "Because some- body's got to stay home and sack the oats." Whether we're sacking the oats, doctoring the sick, or painting a masterpiece doesn't much matter, as long as our mental attitude is right and we're doing the best we can. So, it seems to me we'd bet- ter grab 1985, before it gets away from us, and live it to its fullest. God bless thy year! Thy coming in, thy going out, Thy rest, Thy travelling about, The rough, the smooth, The bright, the drear, God bless thy year! 6 a 2ulututuwtiutlllltltutlu111181uuluuuluuuttllllulluuuutllulmlllluuluwllulltulutult Want a new look?
