began with a delicious turkey
supper and all the trimmings.

The program which follow-
ed was arranged by Irene
Davis and Irene Finlayson.
Irene Davis gave a reading
from the President of the
O.H.C. which was good to
hear and an enlightenment to
all.
Carol singing was enjoyed.
"The Tinkertown Alley Cats."
Mildred and David Kyle and
Jack Simmons, provided toe -
tapping music which was en-
joyed by all.
Following this euchre was
played. Winners: Ladies'
High - Gertie Moir; Men's
High - Nellie Riley playing a
man's card. Low prize - John
McDougall; Lone Hands -
Evelyn Flynn. The next
meeting will be on January 8,
1985 at 2 p.m.

Legion news
The Legion Auxiliary had a
good turn -out for their
Christmas meeting on Dec. 4.
• Lifeembers, Comrades
Leona Parke, Vera Smale,
Hilda Smale and Jean Munn
were presented with corsages
upon arrival.
Upcoming Banquets were
discussed and some organiz-
ed. Special guest for the even-
ing was Zone Commander
Mary Hawn. Mary's talk was
short but informative.
After the meeting a lovely
lunch was served by the com-
mittee in charge. The Life
members were then given
Christmas gifts from the aux-
iliary. The annual gift ex-
change followed. All the gifts
were nice and a good time had
by all. Of course, one person
insisted on taking pictures
and she always gets you when
you least expect it, they
should be good pictures. •
On Dec. 6 several Com-
rades took treats to the
Queensway Nursing home.
Sunday Dec. 9 the children's
Christmas party was held in
the Legion Hall. Films were
shown and then Santa arriv-
ed. Thanks to Deb Plumb and
Louise Allen who organized
the party. Everyone had a
good time.
Because of the lack of snow,
Santa had a little trouble get-
ting there but somehow he
always manages to.
On Dec. 12 the Legion had
their General meeting with a
large attendance. Comrades.
this is good to see. Let's keep
it up; it makes for much more
interesting meetings.
Comrade Louise Allan
reported for Membership, on-
ly a little over half of the
members have paid their
dues, so come on Comrades.
you have less than 2 weeks to
pay for us to get that early
bird plaque. You can pay at
the bar or to the Membership
Committee, Comrades Lloyd
Allan or Ted Taylor.
The Legion will he sponsor-
ing the Hensall Pee Wees in a
Legion Tournament at Ripley
on Jan. 12 at a cost of $8.5.011
with the coaches being paid
for travelling expenses.

Branch. These members
were initiated as Associate
members at the meeting.

day December 16 at the home
of Doug and Anne McGrgor.
Those present were John and
Mary McGregor, their
children Carol. and Terry;
Doug and Anne McGregor.
their children Brian and Bar-
bara and Catherine and Eric
Judge from Strathroy and
their children Heather, Jim-
my, and Kathy Jane. Absent
from the gathering were John
and Mary's son Dave who
was still in Seaforth hospital
recovering very well from his
accident two months ago. We
hope you'll soon be able to
come home, Dave, and be
with your Family.

in the pulpit on Sunday
December 16 when St. An-
drew's Church celebrated the
lighting of the Red Advent
Candle, red being the colour
which represents The Holy
Spirit. A special Christmas
story, "The Cradle" took the

The Senior Choir of the
United Church led the
Ministry of music in a very
beautiful way on Sunday mor-
ning. They 'sang two anthems
"0 Little Town of
Bethlehem". and the very in-
spiring "Two German
Carols" by Roger Wilson bas-
ed on "In Dulci Jubile and
Puer Nobis Nascitur- Wor-
ship was conducted by Mr.
McDonald and Douglas Klopp
was the organist. Jodi
Sararas read the scripture for
the lighting of the third Ad-
vent candle and .Jonathon
Corbett lit the candle.
Sheila Corbett greeted the
congregation and Ron Riley.
Jim Parsons. Lorne Gackstet -
ter and Paul Alexander were
the ushers.
Mr. McDonald spoke on the
subject of ' Things We Need
to Make Room For'•. basing
his thoughts on the text
"There was no room for them
in the Inn". Ile spoke on the
difterent things that Christ
and Christmas remind us to
make room for - humility, the
unknown. the lowly and com-
monplace. ' "The really great
things have a way of happen-
ing silently. quietly. in-
conspicuously. I1 is easy to
recognize greatness. ap-
preciate it. make room for it.
after it becomes great, but it
takes a great person to
recognize and make room for
greatness when it is unknown.

reminded that next Sunday
will he the Christmas Sunday
Service and that the
Christmas Eve Service will
be held at 7:30 p.m. on
Christmas Eve.
The Official Board of the
United Church met on Thurs
day evening for their regular
meeting. All committees
were reminded that .January
is the deadline for 1984 reports
to he into the church office.
The Board are also recom
mending to the congregalion
that the Church service on
June 30 be cancelled in order
that the congregal ion may all
attend the Tuc•kcrsmilh
township celebration church
service. Following the
meeting the (Official Board
were entertained at the
Manse for a Christmas get-
together.
