My greedy little piggy bank.
All year he stood there with a

While I put dimes an nickles

All year he stood there on the

Waiting for me to save what

And now it's time for Christ-

The money tumbles out

That was my piggy bank's
pride and glee
Because Christmas is soon

CHRISTMAS
IN EXETER
By Don Penninea
(:rade 8, Exeter P.S.
Christmas was coming.
To Exeter town.
Children were playing,
With a cheerful sound.
And as they were playing,
They thought in their heads
About Santa (Taus coming
While they slept in their beds
As time passed by.
The final night came.
Would Santa (Taus come
if not. what a shame.
They all went to bed,
Hoping with might,
And Santa Claus came,
Without a fright.
Ile laid down the presents
And then disappeared.
He flew off on his sleigh.
Till the next year.
Christ was born but most
celebrate it on December 25.
People decorate their homes
with wreaths, mistletoe and a
tree covered with beautiful
ornaments and colourful
lights.
Most of the Christmas story
comes from the Bible (Luke
II and Matthew 1 and II) Luke
II tells a story of shepards
watching their flocks by night
when an angel of the Lord ap-
peared and told them the
Messiah had been born in
Bethlehem. Then the
shepards went to see Jesus in
Bethlehem, today pilgrims go
to Bethlehem at
Christmastime.
Matthew I and II tells about
the birth of Christ and the
Wisemen came to see Jesus
and gave him presents of
gold, frankinsense and
myrrh. Christmas gifts began
in memory of the wisemen's
gifts to Jesus.
In the United States and
Canada we celebrate
Christmas with a tree
decorated with gorgeous or-
naments and with colourful
lights. We buy Christmas gifts
for friends and family. In
Great Britain children hang
their stocking by the fireplace
in hopes that Father
Christmas will fill them with
goodies.

JACK FROST
By Elayne Toohey,
St. Patrick's, Lucan
Grade 8
A quick swift wind passes
through the air.
A minute bunny leaps and
frolics looking for his
mother hare. .
The twinkling white snow
lay across the open field.
Icicles hang dangling from
the window sealed.
A noise is heard among the
almost bare trees.
And leaves start to rustle
from a cold winter's breeze
For tonight is the night that
work must be done.
Jack Frost had sprung out
and felt the need for fun.
His face was of hue that
glistened with the air,
His eyes were ice cold, a long
staring pair.
A suit of green fur, a breathe
of cold frost.
He has no friends they are all
lost.
He bounds threw the air to
blow on a window.
But he must hurry soon he
will have to go,
And in the morning delicate
designs will show
That brighten up the window
with a special glow.

Because I knew he soon would

The clock struck for the third

When in the fireplace I saw a
foot
And the boot itself was
covered in soot.
I stayed behind the rocking
chair
Watching there
He looked round about
And am I ever glad he went to
the tree,
you see,
He got out a present that was
for me.
Suddenly he swirved around
I could see were he was bound
For the gib old rocking chair
I hid as far behind as I could
But I was out of luck and
there he stood.
I ran for my bedroom door
My feet had barely touched
the floor.
But I was too late
His hand on' my shoulder he
quietly said,
"Wake up Lad" a I turned
around
And said "What are you up
for Dad"

Please let the day go.

To open my wonderful toys,
Toys that I really want to get
Will all bring me wonderful

A LETTER TO
SANTA
Dear Santa:
I have been a good girl for
most of the year. This year at
Christmas I will be waiting
for you with milk and cookies
because this year for
Christmas I want you to take
me back to the North Pole to
work with your elves and then
you will bring me back next
Christmas.
The next day I went to the
Post office and sent my letter
to the North Pole. A couple of
weeks later, I got a letter in
the mail from Santa saying
that he couldn't take me back
to work with his elves without
my mother's permission. San-
ta said to send him another
letter with my mother's
signature.
So I got my mother to write
her signature on a piece of
paper. Mom asked me why
and I said "So that I can go
work with the elves at Santa's
workshop.
My Mom replied "Won't
you get homesick being away
from home for a year.
She finally talked me into
staying home. The next day I
wrote Santa back saying I had
my mother's permission but
I don't want to go to your
workshop. So instead I will
just have lots of toys.
