I remember the Christmas
when we met at Forest
school. We met our cousins at
the school. Then we went in
the gym. We played and
played and played..
Then my dad and some of
my uncles put up the
climbers. And then we climb-
ed ropes and played Tarzan
on the ropes. We flipped and
flipped and flipped. And then
we ate lots and lots of turkey.
Then my grandfather told
us some jokes. Then we got
the trampoline out. We played
but then Jeremy bit his
tongue. We got some cake
-after that.
And then we got to open our

THE TRAGEDY 1 -
By Tracy Cooper
The day before Christmas
and everyone was excited, in-
cluding the elves. Santa was
resting for the big trip that
happened once a year,
Rudolph was playing hide -n -
seek with all the other
reindeer, and the elves were
giggling and finishing off all
the last touches on their toys.
Mrs. Claus wsa putting the
last seams on all the clothes.
Later, Rudolph was resting
by a fire lace, when all of a
suddenIis nose became
duller, and duller, and duller
until there wsa no more light
left in it. "Oh no!" creid
Rudolph. "What am I gonna
do?"
Up and away he went, run-
ning to Santa to tell him the
awful news and to ask for
advice.
Santa looked at Rudolph.
His smile of joy to see
Rudolph turned to a look of
astonishment. Santa
wondered what had happened
so he took Rudolph to a
lighted cave. In it stood
beautiful woman dressed like
a queen.
"This is the Snow Queen,"
explained Santa. Santa told
the Snow Queen what had
happened and he told the
Queen how he desparately
needed Rudolphs light.
She nodded in a pproval and
said "Dear friends, I will help
you because I realize how
badly Rudolph is needed."
With a swirl of her magic
hand. Rudolph's nose shone
brighter than it ever had
before.
So Santa and Rudolph went
back to their village. Santa
hopped on his sled, that the
eleves had prepared, and off
they went through the distant
night. Everyone was happy.
So was the Snow Queen.

Mr. Santa Claus ..
North Pole, HOH OHO
Dear Mr. Claus,
All I want for Christmas is
someone to play with. Now.
you know, Santa, I've been
asking for someone to play
with for four years: Can you
please give this some con-
sideration this year?
' In case you've forgotten
me, .Santa, I'm Pepper. I'm
the springer spaniel who lives
with Mary and Victor on the
Ausable River Cut. I know
you're real busy giving gifts
to good boys and girls, but you
should try to leave something
for good dogs, too.
You don't forget me com-
pletely at Christmas time,
because I always manage to
find something under the tree
for me. Sure, it takes some
sniffing, but I have a long
nose and can always find the
gifts with my name on them.
No, I can't read my name yet,
but I'm only five, so I'm still
learning.
In the meantime I use my
sniffer to locate my gifts. Last
year you left me a ball, some
chew bones and some
chocolate doggy drops. That
was just great, Santa, please
don't think that 1 wasn't
grateful. But if you had just
left someone to throw the ball
for me, 1 would have been
real happy. You would have
seen my tail wagging all the
way to the North Pole.
Oh, I know, Victor and
Mary play with me
sometimes. but most often,
they tie me up to my dog
house and go off to work. It's
very embarrassing - to be left
tied to your dog house when
some kids or dogs come over
to play and you cant join
them. What's even worse --
they'll leave my orange
hockey ball outside for me to
play with -- and the ball rolls
just beyond the end of my
chain. out of my reach.
Actually. Victor's pretty
good about playing hall with
me -- especially in the sum-
mer when he's mowinthe
lawn..( just .drop the ball in
front of the lawn mower, and
then he stops and throws it for
me. Sometimes he gets a lit-
tle tired of throwing the ball,
so I go nett door and drop it
in front of Bill's lawn mower.
Bill always throws it for me.
In the winter, Victor
sometimes gets fed up with
bending over to pick up the
ball and throwing it for me, so
he brings,out his hockey stick.
I drop the bail in front of him,
he whacks it like he was scor-
ing with a slap shot and I
chase it and bring it back.
Of course, I lose a lot of
balls with all the throwing, so
if you'd like to leave a few ex-
tra this year, I'd really ap-
preciate it, Santa. Just the
other night I lost a ball. It roll-
ed out on the ice on the river
so I ran after it. But the ice
could only hold a plastic ball
-- it couldn't hold me. I fell in,
right next to the retaining
wall and couldn't get out.
Lucky for me, Mary came
home and was looking for me
-- she heard me crying and got
Victor to haul me out of the
river. She says I've used up
three or four of my nine lives
now. What's that mean, San-
ta? Is she comparing me to a
cat? Maybe you could give
me some extra lives for
Christmas, in case I run out.
But, back to my original re-
quest, Santa -- what I really
want most is someone to play
ball with me. Mary Ond Vic-
tor have been saying that
they're going to give me a
baby for Christmas this year.
But, Santa, a baby can't play
ball. A baby won't play
hockey with me and it won't
go swimming with me. i want
someone who will play with
me right now. But I know
what you're going to say --
you're going to tell me to be
patient and next year or the
year after i'll have someone
to play with. Well, OK, Santa
- please don't forget to leave
me a generous supply of balls
this year so I can share with
the baby.
