Action is
questioned
Dear Sir:
I am appalled at the grow-
ing decadence in this country
and am. equally repelled at a
judicial system that simply
does not work.
The citizens of this com-
munity should be deeply af-
fected by the unjustifiable
death of Marilyn Arthur on
the eve of Christmas, 1981.
It is insanity to sit and leave
unrighted the punishment of
the man who brutally and
without conscience took this
young woman's life. Ray-
mond Rueger's original
sentence of first degree
murder has now, two years
later, been reduced to second
degree murder, allowing him
to be eligible for parole in rn•
ly 10 years.
I ask it of the people of this
community, the people of this
county, province, nation, not
to turn away, not to sit and
wait for those elected few to
make the difference. I ask it
of the people to no longer say.
"There is nothing we can do...
There is.
We can and we must take
action with our pens and write
our local and federal politi-
cians to demand change.
In the name of humanity. in
the name of the generation we
now nurture in our homes,
stop the madness.
Bob Dylan once wrote.
"How many times can a man
turn his head And pretend
that he just doesn't see."
Please I call on you, the
people to awake:

Dear Sir:
I am appalled to think I live
in a country where justice can
be so manipulated.
In September of 1982 the
case was heard in the
Christmas Eve killing of
Marilyn Arthur by Raymond
Reuger who followed her car
from London to St. Marys.
where she was going to spend
Christmas with her parents
and family. He bumped her
car off the road, strangled
her, then cut her throat and
left her to bleed to death.
This case was tried by an
Ontario Supreme Court Jury;.
the accused was found guilty
of first degree murder and
sentenced to 25 years without
parole. Now, two years later
this sentence has been reduc-
ed by an appeal court 10 se-
cond degree murder with
parole being possible rn toyears. "
I ask what court is there in
this country that is going to
appeal Marilyn's sentence to
10 years with parole'' \larilyn
was in the prime of her life.
was a contribution to society
never costing the taxpayers a
penny.
If the likes of this kind of
manipulation is to go on
unheeded, how will jury Ix'r-
sons he picked who will per-
form their duties adequately
and what a discouragement to
the policemen who worked so
hard. I have heard the praise
of the family toward these
men I feel we are losing our
civil protection, just living is
becoming scary
In the name of justice and
for the protection of innocent
citizens, the young. the old
and those still unborn. 1 im
plore the people in power to
put a stop 0) this kind of
injustice
I beg the people of Exeter
