The financial statement shows receipts of $22,780.03 and expenditures of $17,694 35. This includes the 1963 tax of $1,002.56. This year's tax must still be remit- ted from the 1984 net profit of $5,085.88. Attendance was down this year. Fisher attributes this partly to competing attrac- tions in a busy Bicentennial 1984. The Bayfield, Forest and Woodstock fairs were held the same day as the Festival, and the Tall Ships were drawing crowds in nearby Goderich. The committee will meet early in the new year to assess the future direction of the Bean Festival. A decision has already been made to cut the advertising and entertain- ment budgets by $1,000 each. More local and less imported talent will be featured at next year's free show, and the price of the dinners will be reduced. Fisher said the committee MAIN ATTRACTION — Santa concert. was the centre of attention at the Varna Christmas will "try some new things" to In 1964 the Festival donated celebrate the Bean Festival's $5,000 to the Zurich arena for 20th birthday in 1885. an ice condenser; the Figure ore news of Harry and Willemina Pen- nings and Gary Regier at- tended the graduation ceremony held at the Holiday Inn for Betty Pennings who received her executive secretarial diploma with honours.
