White Gift t epreseiiteds o b at Tliames oad UC, Sunday
Unexpected nature of Christ's Next Sunday December 9 is
original Coming, hence our White Gift Service at 11:15
need to be prepared or a.m. Theunday School
awake! We await divine in- members are asked to come
tervention. Rev. Robert at 10 a.m.
Matheson spoke on a Minute Young People's meeting
For Mission entitled St. Col- Sunday December 9 at 7:30
umba House, Montreal. p.m. at Elimville.
Sy MIS. WILLIAM ROHDE
The First Sunday in Advent
Church service was held Sun-
day morning with Rev.
Robert Matheson in charge.
Ile told the children a story
entitled Arr'Eye on What Is
Ahead. The choir rendered an
anthem "The Christmas
Glory Song" accompanied by
the organist Miss Agnes
Bray. The Scripture Lesson
was read.
The sermon was entitled
"How L -O -N -G do we wait?"
Isaiah: People of Israel arriv-
ed back in their homeland
after Exile in Babylon expec-
ting great things to happen,
but nothing did happen, they
were disappointed.
One view about this was
that it was punishment for
uasl sins. This passage likely
written after the destruction of
Jerusalem (587 BCE) con-
tains three elements: Con-
fidence in God, Plea for God's
assistance, Description of the
people's distress.
People of Israel ask "Why
does God delay salvation?"
Paul sees the Christians in
Corinth, despite the fact they
are plagued by their human
imperfections, making use of
the gifts Christ has given
them.
Paul tells them to rely more
heavily on these gifts in order
to become more firm in their
witness to Christ in their
lives! Gifts: forgiveness of
sins, reconciliation, harmony
among people.
Summary is faith in one
who is trustworthy, trust in
the vital foundation for love
and history reflects how
trustworthy God really is.
