Kipper youth captures Huron's top 4-H award
The honour of being the
most outstanding 4-H club
member in Huron County
went to Greg Hoggarth, 19 of
RR 2, Kippen at Friday's 37th
annual awards night in
Clinton.

received the Murray Cardiff
citizenship trophy.
He has been a 4-H member
for eight years, a leader in the
computer club this year and
received an 18 project cer-
tificate for completing 10
projects.
Members of the county's 35
4H dubs won awards and
prizes worth 92,400, for com-
pleting their 4-H projects and
outstanding achievements,
Karen Rodman, Rural
Organizations Specialist
(Agriculture) and 350
members took part in about
500 projects under the direc-
tion of 90 volunteer 4-H
leaders.
In brief remarks, Miss Rod-
man said, "The 4-H slogan,
"Together Today for a Ter-
rific Tomorrow exemplifies
what 441 is all about as the
program involves many peo-
ple working together for the
future of youth."
She added, "We commend
our 4-H leaders for their
generous donation of both
time and talent. They help our
young people by teaching
skills, developing their in-
dividual talents and feelings
of self-worth, providing op-
portunities for new ex-
periences listening to them
and by encouraging them to
learn to do by doing."
Donna Johnston, RR 2,
Bluevale, won awards for the
highest score in the county,
with 958 points of a possible
1,000; for the highest total
score with a Holstein calf;
and top sheep club member;
and David Jones, RR 5
Brussels, highest score beef
clubs; Andrea Smith, RR 6,
Goderich, highest score dairy
clubs; Paul Dodds, RR 1
Seaforth, highest score swine
clubs and tractor club; Marie
DeBruyn, RR 1, Exeter,
highest score horse clubs.
With the highest scores in
the poultry clubs were
Michael Strickland, Clinton,
first year Huron Club
member; Janet Hoggarth,
RR 2 Kippen, commercial
poultry: Michael Pullen, RR
4 Clinton had overall top score
in poultry; Mary Daw, RR 3
Wingham, first year North-
west Huron member; and the
second year winning
member, David Reed, RR 1
Dungannon.
Joe Gower, RR 1 Centralia,
had the champion 4-H steer;
Elizabeth Stewart RR 1
Dublin, had champion Hols-
tein. calf and was champion ?

4-H dairy silver dollar com-
petition and Jacquie Robert-
son of RR 2 Bluevale, had the
highest score beef silver

the highest score in the swine
club as a first year member;
Heather McIntosh, RR 5
Brussels, won the award as
champion all-round showman
and the award as champion
horse showman; Carol Rin-
toul, RR 2 Lucknow, was
champion beef showman;
Darren Faber, Kippen, cham-
pion sheep showman; and
Kim Rintoul, RR 2 Lucknow,
had champion Hereford calf;
Debbie Rintoul, RR 2
Lucknow, had champion
Shorthorn steer.
Other top winners were:
Martha Boon, RR 2 Bluevale,
highest score in sheep club
and champion fleece exhibit;
William Fotheringham, RR 4
Seaforth, highest score in
tractor club and won the
award for outstanding
achievement in the field crop
clubs; Robert Rader,
Dashwood, was the top 4-11
snowmobile member in
knowledge and safe operation
of vehicle and he had the
highest score in the
snowmobile club; Brenda
Hackett, RR 3, Lucknow, had
the highest score in the 4-H
farm safety club;
Craig McNeil, RR 6
Goderich, had second highest
score in the senior dairy
management club; Anita Bos.
of RR 2, Seaforth, and Anita
Wilts, RR 1 Auburn won the
4-11 press reporter' competi-
tion; Murray Townsend, RR
4, Seaforth had the champion-
ship 4-11 gate sign exhibit.
