He won Wednesday's mix- ed competition with three wins and a score of 298 and was best in men's play Thurs- day with three victories and a score of 257. In the mixed class, Howard Johns was second with 289 followed by Allen Johns 184 and Delmar Skinner 182. Phil Hern was the runnerup to Dearing Thursday with a 217 score. Next came J. Oberle 215, Stan Love 191 and Delmar Skinner 191. Edna Caldwell proved to be tops in ladieds play Tuesday with a score of 214. Then came Leona Hern 212, Muriel 25 Marshall 198 and Gertrude Hamilton 195. STAN PRESZCATOR Crediton East Mrs. Clarence Fahner, Crediton, Mrs. Myrtle Dietz and Mrs. Helen Dietz, Zurich and Mrs. Arthur Haist, Grand Bend spent the weekend in Cambridge where they at- tended the 40th wedding an- niversary of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ortwein. A total of 45 guests attended for an en- joyable weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Stan Preszcator, and Brenda Glan- ville, London were Saturday supper and evening guests with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Patterson, Dashwood. Mrs. Harold McCallum, RR 1 Walton, Mrs. Ed Regele and Norman Hubley, RR 4 Walton, Mrs. Robert England, Huron Park and Mrs. Stan Preszcator were Thursday dinner guests with Mrs. James Barnes and Jennie, Parkhill and they spent the afternoon with Mrs. David Isaac and Tasha, Centralia and Mrs. McCallum. Mrs. Regele and Mr. Hub - ley were supper and evening guests with Mr. and Mrs. Stan Preszcator. New owners of can company Only a day after buying their company, the new owners of American Can Canada Inc. have bought the can manufacturing opera- tions of Canadian Canners Ltd. of Hamilton for an un- disclosed sum. Canadian Canners, a susbidiary of Del Monte Corp. of San Francisco, manufac- tures about 870 million worth of cans a year for its own use and for several other food processors, said American Can president Barry Pocock. Its two can manufacturing plants in Simcoe and Burl- ington have about 220 employees, all of whom American Can plans to retain, he said. He added that the two com- panies have signed a separate agreement under which American Can will supply cans for Canadian Canners' Aylmer and Del Monte brands. Hensall Legion Branch 468 Once again the Hensall Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion had a very successful Poppy Campaign. The Branch would like to thank Hensall and Zurich businesses, residents and area residents for making this possible. Approximately 3,200 pop- pies were distributed and 16 wreaths were purchased; 14 were placed at the Cenotaph. A total of 8809.00 was col- lected from the sale of pop- pies, and campaign expenses were 8223.00 for a profit of 8586.00. Disbursements; 1 8120.00 Westminster Canteen; 8300.00 Parkwood Hospital; 8175.43 local causes for a total of 8595.43 from Oct. 1, 1983 to Sept. 30. 1984. The Branch would like also to thank the whole Communi- ty for their support at the Church and Cenotaph Service and for marking Remem- brance Day with us. A special thank -you to the Band that has been coming to our Church parade and Service for many years. We would also like to thank the O.P.P for helping. This Sat., Dec. 1, 1984 the Branch is having a Christmas Social. We would like to see members and friends come and enjoy themselves. The music will be provided by Disc. Jockey with lunch provided. Kippen East WI hears about trip to England N MAIIGANIT N000ARTM Kippers East W.I. met at the home of Mrs. Robert Kinsman on November 20. President Grace Drummond presided and read a poem "I must go Shopping". Treasurer's Report was given by Mrs. Vern Alderdice, and Mrs. Carl Payne reported the Board Meeting, Curators workshop and our assignments for the South Huron caterers for the ban- quet December 1 were outlined. The area convention report was heard. It was decided to make a quilt and enter the Tuckersmith Competition. Mrs. Al Hoggarth presided for the program which saw the ladies seated in an English tea room. Mrs. Hog- garth read a hymn Jerusalem and described W.I. meetings in England. Mrs. Stewart Pepper gave the highlights of her trip to England last summer. She mentioned the Queen's Store, the beauty of the country side and the Horse Farm. - Mrs. Carl Payne gave her • impressions of the great con- struction and restoration be- ing done in England, the help wanted signs and Charlie's Place. Mrs. Robert Kinsman played an instrumental "English Country Gardens". Mrs. Alex McGregor describ- ed the beautiful English gardens behind the houses. Mrs. Hoggarth described the five hour train trip to Edinburgh. Mrs. Eric Luther gave the motto, "Love is the best in- surance for World Peace.". She completed the motto by singing to her own accom- paniment "Love of God". All names were placed in a basket and the cookbook com- piled by the W.I. in England was won by Mrs. Winston Workman. The spoon was won by Mrs. Harold Parsons, the occasional notes by Mrs. Dave Triebner, the purse shopping bag by Mrs. Ross Broadfoot and Mrs. Alex McGregor won the tea towel but returned it and it was eventually won by Mrs. Charles Eyre. Mrs. Hoggarth gave "Tea drinking in Britain." Courtesy remarks were given by Mrs. Dave Triebner. Lunch was an English tea served by Mrs. Hoggarth, Mrs. McGregor, LEGION LITERARY WINNERS — Clay Murray of the R.E. Pooley Exeter branch 167 of the Royal Canadian Legion recently presented prizes to the winners in a literary contest. On Wednesday, November 21, a number of Kippen East ladies were guests of • the Crediton Women's Institute sixty-fifth Anniversary. Those . attending were Grace Drum- mond, Evelyn Workman, Frances Kinsman, Mona Alderdice, Ruby Triebner, Mary Broadfoot, Rena Caldwell, Helen MacLean, Thea Wisch, Hilda Payne, Grace Eyre, Mattie McGregor, and Margaret Hoggarth. Evelyn Workman and Hilda Payne were lucky winners of a door prize. Kippen United Church The combined congregation service on Sunday November 25, held in Brucefield Church, took the form of a White Gift Service, with a large number of young people from the Hap- py Hour Group and the Sun- day Schools taking part.
