Honeymooners stay to help with Ethiopian famine

chener last Dec. 17. Cyril
Gingerich had been in charge
of administration at a nursing
home in Lambeth, Ont.
Carol Gingerich had work-
ed for the Christian Blind Mis-
sion in Afghanistan for nine
years as medical secretary to
the medical director of the
Nogr Eye Institute in Kabul.
"She left in 1981 after the
trouble," her husband says.
"A missionary couple were
killed at1 everyone withdrew
in protest."
From then until her wed-
ding last year, she worked at
the Christian Blind Mission's
Canadian headquarters in
Stouftville.
"We've known each other
for years;' Gingerich said.
"We left Canada almost im-
mediately after we were
married.
"We spent a week of orien-
tation at our world head-
quarters in Germany and
three weeks of African orien-
tation in Nairobi. We got here
in February and we're here
for a two-year term."
As the mission's represen-
tatives in Ethiopia, the
Gingerichs give out 2 million
deutschmarks to other agen-
cies that deal with the blind.
Some of it is used for educa-
tion about sight but more than
half goes for medical work.
"If there's a medical pro-
ject dealing with sight, we'll
give them partial funding for
it," Gingerich said.
But now that drought and

Paper drive Thursday
Tomorrow,. Thursday

from those selling so many,
and the lucky winner of an
assorted mixture box, full of
Neilson's candy and chocolate
bars was Aimee Gelinas.
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Rau
spent last week helping their
daughter Suzanne and Dave
Bell move into their new
home at St. Catharines.
Draw winner
The last winner of the K of
C share the wealth draw was
little Brian Pole, $94.00 and
$25.00 went to Larry Bedard.
Both are of Zurich.
Bean Festival
The annual dinner and
meeting for the Bean festival
committee and helpers was
held at the Dominion on Mon-
day„night with elections tak-
ing place for the coming year.

Frank Kane who is a patient
in Victoria Hospital and to
Marcella Dietrich and
Madeline Gelinas from the

The Baord will be establishing early total
French Immersion classes, ('Two (2) locations
only GODERICH STRATFORD for pupils enter-
ing grades Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade
2, effective September 3, )985.
In order to register for Kindergarten, children
must be five (5) years of age on or before
December 31, 1985. Parents ore asked to bring
Birth Certificate and Baptismal Certificate.
Registration forms for (optional) French Immer-
sion class(es) for students now in Kindergarten
and grade one are available through your
school. These should be completed of home
and returned in person to your local school
principal no later than Monday, December 10,
1984.

A pre -Christmas family
get-together was held on
Saturday at the home of Mrs.
Theresa Hartman with all her
children and their spouses at-
tending (21). They enjoyed a
delicious supper and visiting,
coming from Mississauga.
Windsor, London, Lucan, Mt.
Carmel and Zurich area.
Randy and Vickie Geoffrey
spent the weekend with his
sister Colleen and Dann
Wilson in Blenheim and all at-
tended the wedding of their
cousin in Detroit on Saturday.

Cyril and Carol Gingerich
famine are spreading across
Ethiopia and leaving hun-
dreds of thousands homeless
and hungry, the mission is
getting money for general aid
and relief.
"We're giving more than
500,000 deutschmarks for
famine relief, m addition to
the 2 million we give for sight -
related projects," he said.
The money goes to buy
blankets, medicines and high
protein food.
The mission helps fund 30
projects in Ethiopia, one of
them a clinic in Zalambesa, in
Tigre Province, operated by
two nuns, one Canadian and
the other Belgian.
