Queensway news
On Monday afternoon the
ladies from Bethel Reformed
Church joined us for an after-
noon of bingo and a sing -song.
We all had a lot of fun.
On Tuesday afternoon Ran-
dy Cox, Exeter Pentecostal
Church assistant pastor, led
our church service. His wife
Deborah played her guitar.
Thursday was "movie
day". The movie entitled
"Morning on the Rivlere"
took us on a canoe trip down
a river. The scenery was
exquisite.
Friday afternoon our activi-
ty room was converted to a
fashion centre, as Geri
Fashions from London
displayed their wares.
We had a delightful Sunday
afternoon with Coby and Ir-
vine Amoraal and Mrs. Ams-
ing. They played the piano
and guitar and sang beautiful
songs for us.

New meat store
opens in Hensall,
One more new business has
chosen to locate on the main
street of Hensall. Volland's
Meat Market, staffed by
Keith Volland and his wife
Dorothy, opened for business
earlier this month.
Keith Volland has worked
as a meat cutter in Hensall
for 30 years. He learned his
trade with Alf Scholl, one-
time owner of the super-
market and abattoir, and was
rehired by subsequent owner
Russ Goldstein. He was re-
tained as meat cutter when
Don Beauchamp took over the
food store.
Dorothy also started out
behind the same meat
counter three decades ago.
"We used to say we went
with the building", Dorothy
said with her infectious laugh.
Deciding to open their own
business was "a big decision
and a fast one", according to
Keith, and "one we should
have done long ago".
The couple worked along
with carpenter Steve Gra-
inger and his assistant Pat
Bedard, then continued on
"until the wee small hours of
the morning" some nights to
get everything ready to open
for business November 5.
The first week, 550

Cowan guest at
UC anniversary
Hensall United Church was
filled on Sunday morning for
the annual Anniversary Ser-
vice. Leslie Bailey greeted
the congregation and Donald
Wareing, Jeff Corbett, Steven
Corbett and Cecil Pepper
were the ushers.
Guest minister for the day
was Mr. George Cowan of
Chatham, a former principal
of the Hensall School as well
as teacher of the Continuation
School. George was also a
former member of the choir,
and served on the committee
of Stewards of the Church.
Following his retirement as
School Superintendent in the
Chatham area he gave
himself to full time service in
the church.
An outstanding speaker, he
brought a moving message to
the congregation entitled
"The Choice Is Up to You".
He spoke of the need for com-
mitment to Christ and how
our hearts need to be full of
love if we are going to witness
in our jobs and where ver we
live.
Mr. Cowan also took the
children's time and told a
story using potatoes, of how
we need to grow in love and
how love, to be a healthy love,
has to be given as well as
received.
Mr. McDonald conducted
the service with Belva Fuss
as organist. The ministry of
music was led by the Seaforth
Harmony Kings. The con-
gregation were inspired and
thrilled with the message
through song, "I Have a Song
to Sing", the very beautiful "I
Believe" and then the
number, the very triumphant
and powerful "The Battle
Hymn of the Republic".
The flowers on the
memorial stand were placed
in loving memory of Mrs.
Fangrad by their children
John and Grace Gilbert and
David and Ellen Fangrad.
Following the service a
time of fellowship was held in
the fellowship hall with the
UCW as hostesses.
Rev. McDonald attended
the Western Ontario Provin-
cial Assembly meeting of the
Canadian Foresters held in
the Explorer Inn at Jarvis on
Friday and Saturday of this
past week.

customers were served.
Many took the time to pop in
later just to say they were
pleased with the meat.
The goal the Vollands had
set as a measure marking
their venture's success or
failure has been easily sur-
passed each week.
Between waiting on
customers, preparing cheese
trays, slicing meat and keep-
ing the books, Dorothy has not
yet had time to sit down and
write thank -you notes to the 25
Hensall businessmen, friends
and relatives who have sent
flowers, plants or some other
token of their good will.
A large percentage of the
fresh meat is purchased from
Veal's Abattoir, Exeter, and
Schneiders is the main
wholesaler for processed
products.
Volland's Meat Market is
offering specials and draws
throughout the week of their
grand opening November it
to 24.
