Atoms win
Strong goaltending by John
Weverink led the Exeter
Atom Crunchers to a 4-3 vic-
tory over Clinton Saturday.
The Clinton squad showed
they meant business by scor-
ing at only 1:01 into the game
but Exeter quickly evened the
score at 3:13 on a quick blast
by Allan McFalls, assisted by
Jeremy Brock.
Both teams failed to
capitalize on several scoring
opportunities until Brent
Miron notched the go-ahead
goal at 9:57.
Clinton tied the game at
3:06 of the second frame but
at 7:14 superlative solo effort
by Mark McDonald put the
home team back in the lead.
Clinton scored two minutes
later and managed to end the
third period tied at three.
Jeremy Brock's quick shot
at 1:57 proved to be the win-
ner with the assist going to
Derek Beckett. The re-
mainder of the game gave
John Weverink the opportuni-
ty to demonstrate flawless
goaltending.

The senior match -up in a
very quiet Stratford gym-

ly but gradually picked up
momentum as they play wore
on.
The local seniors found
themselves down by one point
at half time but continued to
persevere. After three
quarters of play, the Panthers
were losing by three when
coach Stephen Merner decid-
ed to switch from a zone to
man-to-man defence.
The strategy change work-
ed as the locals found
themselves on top 33-28 at the
end of regular play. Irene
Brand and Jacqui Cottrell led
the scoring with 12 and 10
points respectively while
Diane Willis and Andrea Zim-
mer each ended four points.
The seniors had not ex-
pected to win but pulled off
one of their better matches to
walk away with the win and
advance to semi-final play.
The Panthers were soundly
eliminated from further ac-
tion by Goderich.
The Vikings opened a 35-13
lead before the half time
buzzer sounded and continued
to impress home town fans,
leaving the score at 63-30.

leader for the local seniors
with a total of 13 points. Irene

It wasn't height that beat
the seniors, it was quickness.
The Goderich girls executed
the Last break to perfection
and were tough to stop.
The Panthers finished their
respectable season off with
fashion, playing pretty well
against a very strong
Goderich squad.
It was a similar scene for
the junior cage team, margin-
ly defeating Central and los-
ing to Goderich by 30 points.
One basket was the dif-
ference in the junior quarter-
final at the local school
against Central, as it was
when the two teams met dur-
ing regular season.
The lead swung back and
forth but the locals found
themselves ahead 32-30 when
the clock ran out. A strong
cheering section helped the
juniors cause throughout the
fast paced match.
Diane Deraing paced the
way against Central with 10
points. Kellie Whiteford and
Kristin Lovie picked up eight
points each and Beth Sweeney
added six. •
The crowd payed a big part
in Goderich for semi-final ac-
tion as well. The junior cagers
had trouble clicking and a
strong full court press made
it difficult for the locals to set
up their offence.
Goderich opened up a 20
point lead before the half and
continued to add to that in the
second half leaving the score
at 53-23 in the Viking's favour.
Eight players figured in on
the scoring for the locals. Kel-

Yesterday the junior girls
travelled to Stratford to take
on Northwestern for the op-
portunity to compete at
WOSSA. WOSSA will be held
at the local school starting the
morning of November 30.
In their previous meeting,
Northwestern defeated the

Winter has a way of telling you when your car's headed for trouble. For instance, neglecting
the electrical system can leave you with a no -start situation miles from nowhere. Worse, worn
wiper blades or ice build up on the blades can lead to poor visibility and a dangerous situation
on an expressway. Fog, rain and snow require maximum efficient lighting and night-time visibility.
For peace -of -mind cold weather driving, play it safe, get your car or truck winter ready. Here's
what we recommend.
1. Check condition of anti freeze and test
freezing point.
