tion is a religious issue and
therefore has no place in
government deliberations.
There are people from every
faith both for and against
abortion, it is not a religious
issue but rather a moral
issue. Also prochoicers con-
tinually refer to the fetus as
having "potential life". I real-
ly don't understand this train
of thought as the fetus is
already alive (fully formed at
8 weeks) and has been a
separate human entity from
its conception. Pro choicers

Dear Editor:
The recent court decision
concerning Mr. Henry
Morgentaler vs The Province
of Ontario has opened up a
legal Pandora's Box: im-
plications which are horrific
in a medical -moral sense.
The jury in acquitting Mr.
Morgentaler has done more
than just acquit a man and his
colleagues of some misdeed,
the jury has pronounced some
legal remifications that God
only knows will result.
In this trial, Mr. Morgen-
taler never denied that he had
violated the statutes of On-
tario concerning the matter of
abortion and the conspiracy
to procure a miscarriage. By
his actions of establishing
abortion clinics, in Quebec
and Ontario, Mr. Morgentaler
made abundantly clear that
his was no secretive, con-
spiracy to procure miscar-
riages; it was rather a bold,
brazen declaration that the
law itself was wrong, outmod-
ed, violating a woman's right
to control over her own body.
In the trial proceedings,
although Mr. Morgentaler, et
al were on trial, it was really
the law/ statute of Ontario
that was on trial. The defence
called witnesses and experts
who pontificated on the anti-
quarian character of the law,
as it presently stands on On-
tario's books.
The implicatign of the jury
acquittal of Morgentaler cast
judgement on the law, in ef-
fect supported Morgentaler's
contention. The decision
rendered by the jury bypass-
ed the charge laid against the
defendants, and by im-
plicating the law, the jury has
exceeded its legal respon-
sibility becoming a Rump
Parliament of sorts.
The law was re -written by
this acquittal of Morgentaler

Dear Editor,
After listening to the media
reports on .he Morgantaler
trial I am becoming increas-
ingly concerned of its possible
consequences. So far all that
the public has heard is that all
those "unfortunate" women
who are subjected to the
humiliation of an abortion
committee and are not "OK'd"
must go all the way to the U.S.
to get one. Are we going to
hear any defense for the un-
born children? When you get
right down to the basic issue
- this is what is on trial here
- whether or not the unborn
should have a right to live.

to incite emotion as do the
profilers. But this is the reali-
ty of the issue - you cannot
deny what is happening.
Prochoicers believe that a
woman has a right to control
her own body agree, but I
believe it is more a respon-
sibility and an obligation. The
fetus is not part of a women's
body - it never was and never
will be, and furthermore, the
control should be exercised
long before there ever was a
baby to worry about.
Then there is the idea that
until a certain point in time
the fetus is not a person, and
nonpersons do not have any
rights let alone the right to
live, if persons do not desire
it. Did you know that in the
1920's the Canadian Supreme
Court ruled that women were
not persons!
Dr. Morgantaler knows full
well what he is doing and
what his lawbreaking is
capable of doing to our coun-
try's abortion laws. Accor-
ding to his lawyer these laws
are obsolete - is humanity
becoming obsolete also?
Morgantaler's jury, in my
opionion, are very confused
over the definitidns of necessi-
ty and sheer convenience.
Look inside a glass jar, as
I once did, at a human fetus
10 weeks after conception,
and see not just a "blob of
tissue" but a human boy - ful-
ly formed and tell yourself
that this is not a person nor in-
deed a human being.
Sincerely,
Dianna Hardy

Dear Sir,
Enclosed please find the
copy of a letter sent to At-
torney General Roy McMur-
try. Because this topic is of
vital concern in the light of re-
cent events, I feel the letter
should also be printed.
I hope it will stimulate
some thoughts on the matter
and spark some discussion on
society's real attitude toward
today's children.
Thank you for your
consideration.
Mrs. Roberta Walker,
Grand Bend
The Hon. Roy McMurtry,
Attorney -General of Ontario,
c/o Parliament Bldgs.
Queens Park,,,
Toronto, Ont. -A‘,
Dear Sir;
I weep for the children of to-
day. In Ethiopia and many
other poor countries, millions
of children are starving to
death. The Sikh children of In-
dia and Lebanese children
alike face persecution and
death, embroiled in the
religious wars of their
parents.
Here on the North
American continent, a much
more insidious destruction of
our children is taking place.
The valiant young men and
women of the forties fought
World War 2 to make this
world abetter place for their
children. Now, as grand-
parents, they can only shake
their heads in disbelief at the
young adults of today. With
all the single-minded dedica-
tion of the "Me -Generation,"
they pursue their careers,
seeking TOTAL freedom and
independence. Childbearing
is not only unfashionable, it is
considered burdensome -- a
capitulation to the pressures
of the older generation.
Consider some recent ads in
"Flare" and other
magazines. One ad in
"Flare", November '84,
shows a beautiful infant, with
the caption "Kevin and Sue
made a mistake last year"
and goes on to plug male con-
traceptives. In another ad, a
little girl asks her mother if
she will ever have a brother
or sister, and is given a Cab-
bage Patch doll instead.
More children become the
victims of family violence and
sexual abuse every year.
Thousands of children are
disappearing, kidnapped and
murderead, most never found.
Now Dr. Henry Morgan-
thaler has won yet another
victory against children and
the rights of the unborn. He is
vaunted as a champion of
women's rights, but many of
those women wouldn't be
alive today if THEIR mothers
had telt the same way and ex-
ercised their rights not to
bear this present crop of
career feminists.
The pro -choice movement,
above all, demonstrates the
selfish, perverted attitude of
society at large. It's perfect-
ly understandable that our
children feel a little paranoid,
and many turn to drugs,
alcohol and suicide in com-
plete despair.
Until we change our
priorities toward loving, nur-
turing families, we deserve
anything our children dish
out, when they are running
things and we're the senior
citizens of tomerrow.
Yours sincerly,
Mrs. Roberta Walker.
