Despite the delay, those
who had contemplated giving
the Atlas as a Christmas gift
will not be disappointed,
Reeve Grant Stirling, who
heads the special county

"Attractive certificates
which may be used for gift
purposes are available from
the Atlas Office at a cost of
$45.00 each," he said and add-

The certificates are

Parliamentary Assistant to
the Premier, who chaired the
selection committed for
public nominations, said that
reading the nominations "was
a moving experience when
one realizes that day in and
day out across this province,
volunteers give their time and
energy to help their fellow
citizens. These acts enrich
and add special meaning to
life in Ontario,". She added
that while the province is
honoring 1,984 volunteers this
year, "they are truly
representative of hundreds of
thousands of other volunteers
who share our appreciation
for their valuable work."
The medals, made of On-
tario nickel and gold, feature
the Ontario Coat of Arms on
one side and the Ontario
Bicentennial symbol on the
other are are inscribed with
the words "For Service to the
Community". During her
Bicentennial visit to Ontario,
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth
II was presented with a solid
gold replica of the medal. In
making the presentation,
Premier Davis noted that "in
addressing future challenges,
Ontarians will continue to re-
ly upon two valued traditions:
volunteerism and community
service."
Members of the selection
committee were: Mrs. Birch,
Chairman; the Honourable
Pauline McGibbon;
Municipal Affairs and Hous-
ing Minister Claude Bennett;
