Barrie in- troduced Irene Davis who gave an excellent report of the U.S.C.O. convention which was held in Windsor. Irene also installed the new officers for 1984-85. The new officers are: presi- dent Gen Doyle; vice presi- dent Annie Finkbeiner; treasurer Edith Hohner and secretary Verda Baechler. Conveners membership Mary Clausius; cards Eileen Consitt and publicity Gertie Fleischauer. Barrie introduced Catherine Shantz, who spoke on exercising. She will be hav- ing Fun and Fitness classes every Monday afternoon at 2:30 at the Town Hall for all seniors at $1.00 per week per person. Ed Strachan won the door prize. Rally Day for Zone 8 will be held October 4 at 1 p.m. at the Dashwood Community Cen- tre, which will be a games _day. A poem Gratitude was read by Annie Finkbeiner. The topic was Canadian In- dustries and Ina gave the history of the lumber in- dustry. Amie conducted a scrambled tree contest. During the business Joan Smith and Ina Neeb volunteered to be voting delegates to the rally in Wingham. Group II reported doing fairly well with the booth at the bean festival. Zurich Seniors bowling On Thursday evening 19 seniors were served a delicious turkey dinner at the Zurich Bowling Lanes by Tony and Marlene Bedard. Everyone enjoyed bowling and euchre games. Many thanks. Highest bowlers were: Team one men's high Ed Stachan 362; ladies high Lyda Gandier 283. Team two men's high Richard Creces 366; ladies high Yvonne Creces 236. Skaters Andrea Hendrick and Kerry -Lynn Deitz are getting a head start on ice skating. The two are going to fall skating school twice a week for the month of September in London at the Earl Nicholson arena. Personals Carmel and Meagan Sweeney spent the weekend in Waterloo helping her daughter Carrie and Dan Eybergen with new little baby Tiffany Rose. They all en- joyed a delicious family turkey dinner at his parent's home in Stratford on Sunday celebrating Dan's mother's and brother's birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Widrick, RR 2 Zurich were Sunday visitors along with the families of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schwartzentruber in Brussels who were celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary. A week ago Wednesday, our former Sister Loretta Hagen of St. Boniface School was in town for the day and night visiting with the nuns at the convent while on a trip home from Peru, to see her mother and relatives in the Stratford area. She gave Fr. Mooney a beautiful hand -made vest- ment to wear while saying Mass, before leaving again for Peru where she is working with poor and dying people there. Welcome to Terry and Helen Rau and two girls formerly of Chatham who have recently moved to the Blue Water to the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Denomme who for now are living at their cot- tage at the lake. Terry is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Rau of Zurich. Also welcome to` town to Doug Deichert who has taken up residence in Jake Deichert's home on Goshen St. South, and to Mrs. McNab and her son, who are living in the former home of Mr. and Mrs. David Stark who have moved to Windsor. A family get-together was held at the home of Agnes Regier last Sunday September 9 in honor of Richard and Becky Regier and two children who have moved to Cambridge from Exeter. Blanche Bechard of the Maple Woods Apartments held her annual family dinner on Saturday, September 8 at the cottage of Ed and Lottie Gascho for children, grand- children and great- grandchildren, a total of 24 Hurondale 4-H The first meeting of Huron - dale 4-H Fitness Fair club was opened with the 4-H pledge. Members at the meeting were Judy Coates, Cathy Coates, Teresa McCarter, Terra Ahrens, Kim Murray, Kelly Talbot and Sheryl DeBoer. Leaders are Mrs. DeBoer and Marilyn Baarda. An elec- tion for the different officers followed. They are president Cathy Coates, vice president Kim Murray, secretary Sheryl DeBoer and press reporter Kelly Talbot. The leaders -demonstrated how to make an egg and bacon loaf. While it was bak- ing the girls worked on their books. They sampled the loaf. came. A delicious turkey sup- per with all the trimmings was catered by Birdie Fink- beiner. People came from Kitchener, Chatham, Owen Sound, Huron Park, Grand Bend, Ailsa Craig and Zurich. Blanche is happy to an- nounce the arrival of another great- granddaughter "Katrina Mary' born on August 24 to Margie and Terry Polinsky, Waterloo. Candace Dominique Marie, infant daughter of Joe and Nancy Becker, Dashwood was baptized on Sunday at St. Boniface Church by Fr. Mooney. They left by car on Friday morning and stayed at a cabin about three miles away from the Shrine at Smith's Camp (also staying at the same place were Karl and Mary Regier and family>. Marie among the Huron's, and even walked along the same path the Pope had and collected some of the wood chips from the path. The Raus returned home on Sun- day feeling very holy and hap- py. They took many pictures of a trip they will never forget. The C.W.L. meeting was held on Tuesday at St. Boniface School with the teachers as guests along with Gene Creces who showed slides of his trip to Pago Pago this summer. Thursday is Bingo Night in Zurich (September 20> which will beon the ice surface. The winner from two weeks ago was Irene Ward of Grand Bend who split the $1,780.00 with her friend Eileen Hig- gins, Grand Bend. The two buy their cards together. A lady from Exeter ( name unknown i won the $500.00 jackpot and Lorraine Dietrich was the lucky winner of $75.00. President Margaret Gingerich of the Blue Water Rest Home Auxiliary attend- ed the annual Home for the Aged convention in Toronto from September 10 to 12 along with the Home's ad- ministrator Mr. Joseph Risi and wife Connie and head nurse Barb Shephard. Plan to attend the exciting Septemberfest in Zurich on Saturday, September 22 at the arena from 5:30 to 1:00 for some German food and music. The Huron Country Playhouse closed for another season. Heather Redick of Zurich worked very hard to make this season successful . We are fortunate to live so close to such fine entertain- ment and can't wait to see what next year's program will present.
