The Mites and Squirts ball teams have held their wind up parties for this season. The Mites held their party at Joan Sweitzer's home. The children went swimming in the pool and had a wiener roast. Squirts coaches have been Don Baker and Harvey Ratz. The players presented the coaches with engraved pens and the children received ball crests. Women's Institute Granton WI sponsored a bus trip to Port Dover on Thursday. The highlight of the trip was attending a play at the Lighthouse Theatre to see "The Apple Tree." Two nurseries were visited where the flowers were beautiful and dinner at the hotel was enjoyed. The weather was not good on their journey but after their arrival the weather cleared and all agreed they had an enjoyable day. The credit for the success of this trip goes to Mrs. Clarence Lewis, Granton W.I. presi- dent, who was responsible for the arrangements. Cowgirls win league title The Crediton Cowgirls won a very decisive 18-3 victory over Denfield to win the league trophy and finish off their regular season play in first place. The Cowgirls play Parkhill in the semi finals set and hope to start Monday night at 8 p.m. in Crediton. Please come out and cheer the ladies on. The Crediton squad took the lead in the first inning in their win against Denfield with Debbie Lord starting with a single. Brenda Curry walked and Teresa Van Raay pound- ed out a triple to send the first two runs home. Marilyn Smithers and Kel- ly Heywood got on base with single hits, Tammy Kegler walked and Wilma Lagerwerf cracked out° a a long triple ball to send herself plus the other three home. In the second inning, Bren- da Curry batted out a home run to bring the lead to 8-0. Fay Schenk started off the fourth inning with a long ball to field and was moved - around by Debbie Lord's bunt, Marilyn Smithers one bagger and all were sent home with Brenda Wilds triple. Kelly Ifeywood and Tammy Regier added singles and Wilma Lagerwerf hatted a long ball to centre field and Fay Schenk finished the inn- ing with a single. In the fifth and final inning, the Cowgirls brought in three more runs and were able to mercy Denfield with another home run by Brenda Curry. Marilyn Smithers and Kelly Ileywood added singles while Tammy Regier doubled and Wilma Lagerwerf's single sent them home. Denfield obtained one run in the fourth and two in the fifth for their three run total. The winning pitcher was Kelly Heywood with four strikeouts. In an exhibition game Tues- day night in Exeter the Crediton team defeated the Exeter Greys by a score of 6-4. Leading Crediton at the plate was Brenda Curry and Teresa Van Raay with a tri- ple and a single each. Debbie Lord, Wendi Schwindt, Tam- my Regier, Wilma Lagerwerf and Karen Williams added singles. Kelly Heywood was the winning pitcher. Birr Beautifiers ready for fair 1iy Colleen Hollings The members of the 4-11 garden club, Birr's Beautifiers. held many meetings throughout late spring and the summer. The first meeting was held at Marion White's, one of the leaders. Brenda and Joan Love at- tended the Leaders Workshop for their new 4-11 Club call "Fitness Fair". They will be studying eating habits and weight control through exer- cise and dangers of fad diets. The girls must have been 12 years of age at least by July 1, 1984. The first meeting will be at Brenda Love's September 10 at 7:00 p.m. Anyone interested should con- tact Brenda or Loreen Gill. Congratulations to Dan and Barb Steeper (nee Crunican ) who were married in Parkhill on Saturday. At that meeting we learned how to read a soil test and about thinning and transplanting. At the third meeting we learned tool care, weed iden- tification, and flowers. 11 was held at Marilyn Jenken's, our other leader. Insects, diseases, and land- scaping were taught at the fourth meeting. it was held at Valerie F'retz's home. Louise and Lynn Mardhn hosted the fifth meeting. We learned flower arranging, landscaping, and judging and exhibiting vegetables. For our sixth meeting we went on an outing to tour Fan- shawe Nursery, August 15. We learned many things from this experience. We held a work meeting August 21 at Colleen Hollings'. Our Achievement Day will be held at ilderton Fair. Pro- jects and books will be displayed. Mr. and Mrs. Stan Preszcator visited with Mrs. Ed Regele, RR 4 Walton on Thursday_ The evening was spent with Mr. and Mrs. Harold McCallum, RR 1 Walton. Also visiting them were Mrs. Mary Yost, Dayton, Ohio and her friend, ' and Mr. and Mrs. Kon McCallum and children, RR 1 Watton. Sympathy is extended to the Hendrick family.
