The Medicine Hat rider took the mud and the long line of serious contenders in his usual stride and retained his national expert 125 and 250 class titles, winning all four motos (two in each class) . The track conditions resulted in plenty of spills as axle -deep mud proved too much for some of the riders, particularly those in the novice 80 class. Because of the severe Jets w i n The Exeter Junction Jets edged the Exeter A's 13-12 to win the A championship of Monday's Usborne bantam girls softball tournament in Kirkton. The Jets scored all 13 runs in the first four innings and held off the A's who came close with a three run out- burst in the sixth, but, went down in order in the final inning. Liz Cottrell was the top run producer for the winners crossing the plate three times. Jodi McBride and San- dra DeBoer each scored twice. Getting single runs were Catherine Davison, Ronalynn Bell, Kim Crawford, Shelley Skinner, Patti Bierling and Mary Ann DeKoker. Kellie Whiteford scored three times for the A's. Kim Paquette, Deanne Dearing and Karen Rowe tallied two runs each and Julie Blom- maert, Jodi Chanyi and Pat- tie O'Toole scored in single fashion. weather despite the tarpaulin that the Hully Gully grounds crew used to cover the track the resulting mud was term- ed by many as being the "Great Equalizer." Rider after rider tumbled in a particularly bad area just at the finish line jump. That not only cost the youngsters some dirty clothes, it dropped their times as many had con- siderable difficulty getting their machines up out of the mud to get going again. Pederson displayed the devil-may-care attitude which has earned him the nickname of Rollerball. He aggressively tackled the course and all the riders on it and coasted through to his wins in the majority of the four motor. The champion displayed his superiority as he oyercame • the challenge of the best riders in Canada, the track conditions (that put him through the fence during practice) and was still able to put on a great display of showmanship as he double jumped the "whoops" and the mammoth sand pit in the final race of the day. Rob Hodgson of Cambridge who will be the number three plateholder for the next year, SPILLS GALORE — Muddy track conditions led to many spills at Monday's cham- pionship races at Hully Gully. also won the London Free Press' Sportman Award for the best showing of Sportmanship. Darin Sharuga, Calgary, Alberta won the Long Jump of the day, when he jumped over 77 feet off of the finish line jump during the second moto of the 250 Expert class. The next CMA sanctioned race will be September 30. when Hully Gully will host their final motocross race of the 1984 season. Ontario's Solicitor -General George Taylor opened the event with help from MP Murray Cardiff and Stanley Reeve Paul Steckle. • MATHERS MOTORS Chrysler - Plymouth - Dodge Dodge Trucks Q Bob Lammie Sus: (519)235-1523 Res: (519)262-2134 .411 0 136 Main St. N., Exeter, Ontario NOM 1S0 Exeter Figure Skating Club Registration for Figure Skating, Power Skating and Precision Skating ($5.00 reg. fee for precision try outs) Wednesday, Sept. 12 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 9 a.m. - 12 South Huron Rec Centre Pros will be in attendance.
