She was selected because of her outstanding academic achievement at the college. She is the daughter of John and Bridget Groot, RR 1 Zurich. We were encouraged to visit more frequently our parishioners, whether they be the elderly, lonely, shut-ins or new mothers. Many look for- ward to our visits. Congratulations to Frances Ayotte who was the lucky win- ner in the National Conven- tion Lottery recently. We were reminded to watch the Sunday bulletin for infor- mation on the annual deanery meeting to be held at the end of September as registration may take place before our next monthly meeting. Articles are needed for our annual bazaar to be held in November. Any ladies who enjoy knitting, crocheting or any hand crafts, your items would be greatly appreciated. The historian gave a report on the object policy and spiritual program on the New Constitution. The door prize was won by Mary Jeffrey. The next meeting will be September 18 and the teachers will be invited. 8100.00 was sent to Brent- wood Recovery House for alcoholics. Fr. would like some from our parish to go and see the Pope when he comes in September. Plans were made for the Bean Festival on August 25. Personals Donald (Corky) and Shirley Bedard enjoyed their flight to California for four days being at the closing games of the Olympics was very exciting and interesting. The Bedards along with their family who are from Michigan but spend most of the summer on the Blue Water at their cottage recently went to Boyne Highlands for five days where they did a bit of golfing and sightseeing. They also went to MacKinaw Islands. Congratulations to Char and Dan Elliott, RR 3 Zurich on the arrival of their first baby, Stephanie Alyce. Proud grandparents are Cleve and Margaret Gingerich. Cliff and Delores Gingerich and family are spending this week at a cottage in Chesley Lake along with Andy Gra- inger (a friend of Chris) and Ralph and Yvonne Gingerich and children of Elmira. A lovely two-week vacation was enjoyed by Bob and Faye Forrester, Lori and Tanya, along with Bob, June and Tracy Fisher as they travell- ed by motor home to New Brunswick where the men at- tended an army reunion. They took the ferry across to Newfoundland which was a seven hour ride, but on the way back took the long ride which was 19 hours. While away they saw many in- teresting things and places and went through five pro- vinces and four states. They arrived home last Thursday. Dave and Suzanne Bell, Windsor, are presently spen- ding a couple of weeks' holidays with her parents, Alida and Andrew Rau and other family members in the area. The four spent three days last week in Roger City, Michigan and at Pine Lake, Ontario. Peter and Adrianna Tetley and baby Casey, of Kings Ci- ty spent the weekend with her parents, Case and Annie Van Raay at RR 3 Dashwood. The Hendrick family were away on holidays this past week. A very nice month's trir was taken by Louis and Josie Denomme when they went by plane to visit their son Joseph in Edmonton (now of Van- couver). They visited with son Stephen and daughter-in-law, Leeta in Prince George, B.C. and another son, Frederick in Calgary. Due to holidays I will not have a column in next week's paper. Sister Laurette Farwell from Caledonia spent last week with her sister Marcella Dietrich and brother Clarence Farwell at the Maplewoods Apts. and also visited with another sister, Helene Regier in Mt. Carmel. All the teenage employees of the Tasty -Nu Bake Shop in Zurich and area were treated to a day of fun last Wednes- day at Canada's Wonderland by their boss, Doug Oesch. A good time was had by all who went. Betty and Gary Flaxbard with children Jill and Jeff of Kitchener spent from last Tuesday to Friday of their holidays with his parents, Earl and Anne Flaxbard. A beautiful spiritual retreat was made by Sharon Durand, Gert Durand, Marie Cyr, Agnes Regier, Beatrice Cor- riveau and Madeline Ziler for three days last week at the Retreat house in Oxley. A family get-together and celebration was held in honor of Sister Carol Mittelholtz on Sunday August 19 in London. Sister was celebrating her 25th Jubilee as a nun. Atten- ding the happy occasion were relatives from Zurich, Florida, Chicago and Exeter. A family birthday supper was held at the home of Mar- tin and Cheryl Gelinas with the grandparents last Wednesday celebrating little Monique's first birthday on August 18. Happy birthday to Matilda Tetreau of the Blue Water Rest Home who will be 99 years old on Saturday, August 25. Registration for the Bean - Sprout Nursery School in Zurich, will be held on Tues- day, August 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the United Church. Carrie and Dan Eybergen of Waterloo spent last week at his parents cottage in Grand Bend. The couple were supper guests on Thursday with her farmily The Sweeneys and Klopp's celebrated Carrie's 20th birthday recently. Jerome and Carmel Sweeney and girls are enjoy- ing another week relaxing and swimming at Point Clark. A good time was had by all at a family get-together on Sunday held at the home of Doug and Julie DeBus. Dean William O'Brien son of Denise and Roger O'Brien was baptized on Sunday, August 19 at St. Peter's Church, St. Joseph by Fr. Bensette with Godparents be- ing Terry and Pat Brandon of Bayfield. A family get- together at the baby's home on the Blue Water followed.
