A full weekend of activities
has been planned to christen
the Centre, celebrate On-
tario's Bicentennial, and
carry on the traditional
Stanley township Labour Day
weekend celebrations.
Glenn Hayter attended the
meeting to discuss the present
status of the Webster -Hayter
drain, and propose a solution
to some of the problems. The
matter was referred to the
county, which plans to under-
take some work on the drain.
An accident on side road 15
in which a car ignored the
dead end sign and went over
the edge spurred a discussion
of adequate signs on certain
township roads. The Rathwell
corner at Bully Gully was
also discussed. Council will
contact the ministry of
transportation and com-
munications to ascertain
what signs are required at
such roads.
Lewko Ivanchenko app-
peared before council to in-
form them he is now a full-
time resident of Vodden
Beach, and hopes for ade-
quate snow clearance on his
roadway. He was told
sideroad 20 is designated
seasonal recreational, and
complex
while the roads department
will do its best, other more
heavily used roads must be
given preference.
Landfill site supervisor
Harvey Hayter attended the
meeting. to inform council of
problems he was having. As
a result, usage practices have
been tightened. The padlock
on the gate has been changed,
and garbage collectors must
obtain a key from the clerk's
office, and return it after
dumping clients' garbage. In-
dividuals may only use the
dump on Saturdays and
Mondays.
Tile drainage loans totall-
ing $50,10>p'were approved.
Road superintendent Bill
Taylor successfully com-
pleted a three-day course at
the C.S. Anderson Road
School.
Council called a special
meeting July 23 to pass a
bylaw proclaiming a com-
munity festival on August 31
and September 1 and 2. Any
profit from the various events
will go to community ser-
vices, recreation and minor
sports.
Council will meet for its
next regular session on Fri-
day September 7 at 10:00 a.m.

Stanley of Bayfield recently,

Seasons Estates near
Bayfield.
Barb and Lori Consitt were
hostesses for a bridal shower
for Dianne ('onsitt on Satur-
day afternoon, when over for-
ty members and friends of the
Consitt family presented her
with lovely gifts and a bride's
book. On Sunday the bridal at-
tendants held a shower for
Dianne at Carol Stephenson's
home. A large crowd attend-
ed the buck and doe party at
Larry Peck's on Saturday
night.
Lowell and Lynn Mount had
a whole ball team, the Cham-
pion Cycles of Newmarket,
camped at their place for the
weekend. Several relatives
and friends play on the team.
The Stanley Dreamers,
Lowell's team, had a game of
slo-pitch and a game of two -
pitch with them, which was
rained out on Saturday and
finished on Sunday. The
Dreamers treated the
Newmarket team to a
barbecued pig supper on
Saturday, which had to be
eaten in the old township hall
because of the weather.
The team would like to
thank Glenn Hayter for
donating the pig for the
barbecue. The Newmarket
people were very impressed
with the terrific hospitality of
the people here and have in-
vited them to come to
Newmarket next summer.
Bill, Mary and Brian
Chessell attended a Jefferson
family picnic and bridal
shower for Margaret Laing of
Guelph at Port Blake on Sun-
day. Margaret is being mar-
ried in September to Jeff
Allen of Guelph.

'Phis Saturday August 25
will be the highlight of the
year for Zurich and the sur-
rounding community. '1'he
Zurich Bean Festival will
begin its activities early in the
week to prepare for the influx
of visitors on Saturday mor-
ning. Residents here would be
pleased to have you visit the
Horne anytime during the
weekend, and we recommend
that you patronize the Blue
Water Rest Home Auxiliary
booth at the festival for
refreshments as well as to
buy tickets on the beautiful
quilt that someone will win.
All proceeds will go towards
gifts for birthday parties,
Christmas gifts and parties
and all the extra equipment
needed to make life more
pleasant for the residents.
On Tuesday evening, the
ladies of Thames Road United

Is there anyone out there
who might have bits and
pieces of foam or larger
pieces that residents could
chop up for stuffing`' It would
be appreciated.
Some of our residents were
out for a bus ride on Friday
