Summerfest
Despite heavy ratite Satur;
day afternoon, the second an-
nual Summerfest Days in
Crediton were an unqualified
success with all activities
drawing lots of attention.
The weekend started Fri-
day night with an official
opening at the Stephen
township hall. Ernst Beilharz
of Baiersbronn, Germany
was in attendance to bring
greetings from his city and
presented a drawing to
Crediton police village trustee
Bill Wilds.
Sherri Wells, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wells was
named Summerfest Junior
Miss. She was crowned by
last year's winner Christina
Glanville. The runnersUp
were Christy Mosurinjohn
and Jeanette Leibold.
Jim Swan of CFPL televi-
sion was master of
ceremonies for the Junior
Miss contest and the talent
show.
Taking first prize was a
quartette of young ladies
from Granton. They are
Juanita, Bernadine and
Eleanora Kop and Angie Nix-
on. Finishing second were
Scott Crawford and Jeff Max-
well with guitar duets and
ventriloquist Yrette Campbell
was third.
Saturday's activities began
with a bountiful pancake and
sausage breakfast sponsored
by the Crediton fire depart-
ment. The Crediton Women's
Institute and United Church
Women held a successft
bake sale and a number of
vendors displayed their
crafts.
A lengthy and colourful
parade attracted throngs of
spectators along the long
main street early Saturday
afternoon.
First prize for the best
decorated entry went to the
Crediton minor baseball
teams and,the Water Bomber
with Bruce Dundas and
Shawn Finkbeiner was
second.
Prizes in the family
category were won by the
Harvey and Glenn Hodgins
families with their Har -Glen
Holsteins and Lightfoot
Farms were second.
In the commercial division,
winners were Finkbeiner Pro-
duce and Jim Becker Con-
struction while Harold and
Gladys Cudmore and David
Gibson weeebest witirantigtte
cars.
Cook's Division of Gerbro
with a team of horses from
Lorne Ross of St. Marys was
judged best in tt}e horse
drawn category with Gerald
Tyler's Dashwood Taxi ser-
vice in second spot.
Top prize in the horse and
rider class was won by Lin -
day Dillon and Leanne
Stewart with their Roman
Chariot and Steven Geiger
and his pony Brandy were
second.
Jack Jesney and Darren
Collett with their Flintstones
entry from the Crediton Lions
club were tops in the comedy
division with the River Rats
of Derek Dinney, B.J.
Tideswelle and Gerry Beaver
as runnersup.
Barb Wareing and
daughter Gillian and Genna
in a covered wagon were best
in the bicycle and small vehi-
cle section. Next were Steven
llendrick with his rabbits and
Lisa Clarke and her Cabbage
Patch land group.
Winners of $250 each in the
Bessie Bingo were Bob
Reynolds, Arnold McCann
and Lenny Rosehart. Bessie
who decided the winners
when she decided to let the
chips fall where they may
kept the ticket holders anx-
ious for more than nine hours

A beef barbecue and dance
with Beechwood supplying
the music wound up the Satur-
day schedule •
A Saturday horse show was
delayed because of rain and
will be concluded this Satur-
day at the Zurich Bean
Festival.
Marc than 150 persons at-
tended an interdenomina-
tional church service at the
Building up
during July
The value of building per-
mits issued in Exeter during
July showed a slight increase
over last year's correspon-
ding month.
The total was $64,253.50, up
from last year's $52.782 75.
That brings the 1984 total to
$1,208,289 12. which is about
$300,000 lower than last year
at the same time
July's total included $51.903
for 24 residentirl renovations
and additions, $1,000 for in-
dustrial. $3.000 for commer-
cial and $5,350 for tool sheds,
sun -decks, carports and
garages.
There were 32 temporary
sign permits approved, bring-
ing this year's total to 105.
