the wedding at St. James
Church and the reception at
the Lucan arena for Joan and
Bob Finkbeiner.
Others attended the wed-
ding of Dave Marrinan and
Dawn Wall at Mt. Carmel
Church and the reception at
Ilderton arena.
Congratulations to these
young couples from our
community.
Mr. and Mrs. Alan Hill and
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Carter
enjoyed the weekend at Fid-
dleville, Shelburne. They at-
tended an inspiring church
service at the arena Sunday
morning under the direction
of Rev. Besly.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cunn-
ingham attended the gradua-
tion of their youngest son Glen
at Camp Gagetown, N.B. He
will be stationed at Victoria,
B.C. as a second lieutenant.

A peanut and candy scram-
ble was held for all ages,
relays held and the favourite,
toss the balloons - a way for
everyone to cool off.
Personals
Mrs. Bernice Boyle,
librarian, reports that the
books have been exchanged
and there is a great
assortment.
Mrs. Jessie Rader has
returned home following a
three week vacation in the
west with her son, Jim, Peggy
and children of Ottawa. They
flew from Toronto to Van-
couver and stayed for a week
in Victoria with Peggy's
mother and celebrated her
birthday. They visited many
places of interest including
walking in the ocean, saw the
largest tree, a rose garden
and museums. They returned
to Vancouver by ferry. They
visited Penticton and
Kelowna where they went on
a paddle boat and stayed at
Golden overnight and stopped
at Lake Louise, Banff and
Calgary where they visited
zoos. Gwen Rader, Cathy and
Robbie Rader met them on
their arrival back in Toronto.
Mrs. Alma Genttner is a pa-
tient in University Hospital,
having suffered a heart
attack.
George Tieman was home
for the weekend from Univer-
sity Hospital.
Irvin Rader returned home
from South Huron Hospital,
Friday.
Don Gaiser arrived home
from St. Joseph's Hospital,
Saturday, following surgery.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Stumpf,
Kitchener, and Mrs. Irene
Hippe, Surrey, B.C. cousin of
Mrs. Stade, were Thursday
visitors with Mr. and Mrs.
Melvin Stade and Sherrie.

Honour Australian couple
Hodgert family golfs
S MRS. WILLIAM ROHDE
The annual Hodgert golf
tournament was held at the
Exeter golf course Sunday.
After the tournament, they
returned to the home of Reg
Hodgert, where the trophy
was presented by Lillian
Hodgert to a team consisting
of Grant Hodgert, Florence
Richardson, Shirley Hewitt
and Ross Hodgert.
Low gross was won by
Grant Hodgert, and Shirley
Hewitt. Low putt went to Eric
Ellis, and Michelle Riehl;
nearest to the pin on hole no.
3 was Rick Parker and a no -
putt hole to Ivan Hern and
Reg Hodgert.
Later in the afternoon,
other relatives and friends
joined the golfers where Reg
and Jean, Ross and Kathleen
Hodgert co -hosted a shower
for Jane Hewitt of Agars
Road, Balliang East,
Australia, and Brad Cann,
whose wedding will take
place in Australia later this
year.
The event was announced
by a huge flashing sign on the
front lawn. An outdoor area
was decorated in Canadian
red and white, and Australian
blue and white with illustra-
tions of Australian and Cana-
dian wild life.
Kathleen HodgertAvelcom-
ed everyone and Jean
Hodgert gave a humorous
reading. Brenda Hern, con-
ducted a mock wedding with
Pat, Scott, Joanne, Alan and
Lee Hodgert taking part.
Diane Ellis read an address
and Joanne and Pat Hodgert
presented the gifts.
Brad and Jane expressed
their appreciation to all pre-
sent. A buffet luncheon was
enjoyed by guests from
Balliang, Australia; London,
Kitchener Waterloo, Seaforth,
Grand Bend, Zion, Staffa,
Clinton, Exeter and Thames
Road.
Tammy Rohde spent a few
days recently with her friend
Allison Jaques,of Zion.
A number of ladies from
this area attended a wicker
party at the home of Mrs.
Ivan Hern, Zion Saturday
afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. David
Passmore, Tom and Jon have
been holidaying at the Klon-
dyke south of Grand Bend.
Mr. and Mrs. Reg Hodgert,
and Scott were guests at the
wedding of Joanne Morden
and David Stephen at Clinton
Baptist Church, Saturday
evening. Mrs. Hodgert pro-
vided the organ music for the
wedding, and Scott ushered
the guests.
Mr. and Mrs. Bryce Skin-
ner, Munro, Mr. and Mrs.
Norman Johns, Woodham,
Mr. and Mrs. Wray Sweitzer,
Shipka were Sunday evening
supper guests with Mr. and
Mrs. William Rohde. The oc-
casion being the 40th wedding
anniversary of Mr. and Mrs.
Sweitzer which is the -19th.
They were presented with
gifts. Congratulations Wray
and Madeline.
Mr, and Mrs. William Jef-
frey of Harmony called on the
Rohde's later in the evening.
The pancake and sausage
breakfast was well attended
Sunday morning in Thames
Road Church.
The ball tournament for the
pee wee boys was held at
Cromarty Community Park.
The Usborne boys won the B
championship with a score of
12-4 against Hibbert. Con-
gratulations boys and also to
their coach Wayne Rowe who
has spent a lot of time with
the boys.
The Usborne team won all
their 10 games during the
season.

Centralia girl is leader

Miss Wendy Sterling has
returned home after having
completed her six week
course at Petawawa. She ob-
tained her "Cadet Leadership
instruction" papers.
Miss Bonnie Keys, Huron
Park is spending this week
with her grandparents. She is
employed at Murray's or-
chards. Her parents and
Clyde have been camping for
the past month at Happy
Days camp ground.
Mrs. Jim Files (Marikay),
Terrace Bay, Jimmy, Mary
Jo, Jennifer and Cara spent
last week with Mrs. Florence
Hodgins and attended the reu-
nion and shower for Barbara
Crunican and Danny Steeper
at their aunt and uncle's Mr.
and Mrs. Meredith Charlton,
Strathroy.
Dr. and Mrs. Irma Toth
(Eleanor), Kimberly, Randy
and Natalie, Boston spent the
week with Mrs. Florence
Hodgins. They also attended
the reunion and shower and
Thursday visited Mr. and
Mrs. Ken McAlpine and Wen -
dal and Shelea Alton.
Mr. and Mrs. Keith Hodgins
and boys, Mr. and Mrs. Don
Pickering and Joanne attend-
ed the same reunion and
shower and visited at home of
his mother several days. Miss
Ada Mitchell, Montpelier,
Ohio also spent several days
with them.
Richard Fralick a nephew
from Detroit, Michigan and
Mr. and Mrs. Herb Cooper,
friends from Warsaw,
Missouri visited with Mrs.

The sympathy of the com-
munity is extended to Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Wilson in the
death of Harry's mother, the
late Mrs. Flora (Hess)
Wilson.
The funeral was held from
Hopper -Hockey funeral home
on Monday. She and her hus-
band the late Gordon Wilson
farmed for many years on
concession 2 of Stephen
township. She was in her 86th
year.
Congratulations to Brent
and Jean Caslick on the birth
of a son. Brent is stepping
high these days.

The lion and the calf shall lie
down together, but the calf
won't get much sleep.
