Ringette is the fastest growing team sport in North America and has the distinction of having its orgin in North Bay, Ontario. Ringette is a sport unique- ly designed for girls, stressing team participation, fun, sportsmanship and healthy competition. Ringette is played on an ice hockey surface. Sticks are straight and a rubber ring is used instead of a puck. To eliminate a super star dominating the play, the ring must be passed over each blue line, thus emphasizing the team play ideal. - Since its inception in Exeter two years ago, ringette has doubled its registration to almost :30 girls. The first year was primarily a learning year for both coaches and girls but last season saw two junior teams make a very respec- table showing in several ex- hibition games and two tournaments. Further details will be advertised closer to the actual date. At a recent meeting league officials decided to change to a non -body contact style of play and are hoping for as many as a dozen teams to participate. Plans are for a light schedule and not to interfere with any present recreation leagues in the area. The new league would start about Oc- tober 15 with the final date for signing players set for November 15. Player cards will be eliminated. Games for the league would be played at the South Huron Rec Centre and arenas at Zurich, Hensall and Stephen township. Teams are ex- pected from Zurich, Varna, Hensall, Centralia, Ailsa Craig, Crediton, Dashwood, Grand Bend, Exeter, etc. One of the objects of chang- ing the type of league is to cut down on costs of operation with shorter games creating less ice time and flat rates for referees.
