Lynne's comments in this •
newspaper last week regar-
ding the summer playground
programs.) '
Dear Lynne:
I am an adiocate of your
organized playground pro-
gram, however, I feel there
are a few gray areas. Firstly,
your advertising folder gave
the wrong times however, you
did not contact ALL parents
prior to sending the children
home earlier. As a result, my
-children were home 1-2 hour
before I was.
You state that you are not
a babysitting service. The
term does cheapen a good
program, however the very
fact that you exist causes
parents not to need babysit-
ters and thus you become one.
I leave for work when your
program starts, I am home
for lunch and drive the kids
back and pick them up or
meet them at 3:30. I see no
difference between thus and
the mother that slaps or visits
or stays home. We are
available when the children
need us.
You have your grants plus
an extra this year from the
Optimists yet your fees go up.
I still feel that the charge is
worth it. However we pay for'
service.
During the sidewalk sales
we paid and received nothing.
As a shopper, I could have
done without all the kids and
bikes that ran you over while
you shopped.
Please don't ruin a good
thing by carelessness or pet-
ty arguing.
You have stated you will of-
fer a program for X number
of days and X price - do it
responsibly and with pride. It
doesn't matter why the
children are there, the fact is
that they are there. Thank
you.

Baker has been an outstan-
ding success in attracting
women applicants interested
in police careers," Mr. Taylor
said.
Constable Baker, an OPP
officer for 10 years, was
recently named Affirmative
Action Manager for the On-
tario Ministry of the Solicitor
General. The OPP is part of
that ministry.
Commissioner Ferguson
had said before Constable
Baker's tour that in the 75th
anniversary year of the OPP,
a priority would be to attract
an increased number of
women candidates to apply to
the OPP.
"Constable Baker's tour
has shown that the interest is
there," Commissioner
Ferguson said, noting that the
number of applications from
women has increased by 170
percent for the first six
months of 1984 as compared
to the same period in 1983.
Solicitor General Taylor
noted that the percentage of
women applicants for OPP
policing jobs has increased
from less than nine percent to
'21 percent: -thy year.
"This is a welcome in-
dicator of increasing interest
by young women in what is a
challenging and rewarding
career opportunity," the
Solicitor General said.
Commissioner Ferguson
said that no quota for the
number of female recruits
has been set, and the Force
wants the best qualified ap-
plicants regardless of age.
Constable Baker said she
was appreciative of the
assistance of the media in her
efforts to encourage women
to consider police work as a
career option.
During her tour of 40 On-
tario municipalities, Con-
stable Baker participated in
nearly 150 newspaper, radio
and television interviews.
