At the Lucan-Clandeboye
combined service on Sunday
Ed Melanson welcomed
members and friends and
joined his son Allen in the
pulpit to lead in worship.
Allen opened the service
singing "Jesus is Alive and
Well" and led all present in
several songs as well as sing-
ing "He is Jehovah" and "So-
meone to Go to".
Speaking from 1 Kings
18:17-40, Allen told the con-
gregation that Christians are
searching for God, not
something counterfeit, such
as cults or the occult which
are just as counterfeit and
and bad.
Christians, as the "body of
Christ" are the Elijahs of to-
day and should say as he did
"God - let it be known." Jesus
said "I am the way" and our
life style should be to walk in
love with Him.
Service next Sunday will be
at 10 a.m. in the Clandeboye
Church and Rev. Keith Brown
will be back from holidays.

Rev. Roger Mason
ministered from Philippians
4:4, the book of joy and rejoic-
ing in the Lord. There are
three ways a Christian can re-
tain their joy in Christ. The
Christian life should not be an
endurance test. Cir-
cumstances can defeat one's
joy, as in Philippians 1:12.
where Paul was in prison.
Rut Paul never lost his joy.
People who depend on cir-
cumstances are going to be
miserable a lot. A single
minded ('hristian devoted to
Jesus Christ has a Christian
incentive to live in joy as in
verse 21.
People can bring defeat to
a person's joy. Verses 15-18
show people did not like Paul,
but he still rejoiced. In
Chapter 2: 1-2 Paul encourag-
ed people to have unity as
Christians. Verses 14-18 tell
how Christians should live in
peace with each other, putting
others before themselves. as
verses 3-4. Even Jesus humbl-
ed Ilimself to die for us.
Things can cause Chris-
tians to lose their joy. The
world tries to get joy by ac-
quiring things In chapter
3:4-6 Paul tells how he was
from a special class of Jews
possessing all the things a
Jew would want. But in
verses 7-8 he' states he
counted what he had to be
rubbish to that he could have
Jesus Christ. ('hristians
should set their minds on
things they will have in
Heaven spiritually with
Jesus.
Rev. Roger Mason spoke
from Philippians 4:6-9 Sunday
evening. Anxiety and worry
will steal our Christian joy_
Verse 6 tells us not to be anx-
ious about anything. Chris-
tians can overcome worry by
specific prayer.
Paul tells Christians not to
worry about anything when
they can pray about it
Prayer should be for a
specific need earnestly, made
known in a specific request.
Thanksgiving always should
accompany prayer for what
God has done. Once we have
done this, the peace of God
will he the result. This peace
of God will guard Christian's
hearts and minds.
Christians can maintain
victory over worry by right
thinking, listed in verse 8. Let
their minds think on things
that are honest, true, just,
pure, lovely, of virtue, praise,
and of good report, as this
good meditation will affect
