Mrs. Marguerite Gibson of London had dinner on Thurs- day with Mr. and Mrs. William Rohde and Tammy. After dinner they all visited with Mr. and Mrs. Alex Rohde of Mitchell. Miss Joanne Hodgert returned home on Sunday evening after being on a Scan- dinavian tour for two weeks. Misses Karen and Kathy Rohde of Exeter spent the weekend with their grand- parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Rohde. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Rohde of Kippen, Mr. Doug Rohde of Exeter, Mr. Glenn Rohde, Danny and Tammy visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. William Rohde. Quite a number of people attended Open House on Sun- day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Stewart in honour of their daughter, Donna. Mrs. Glenn Rohde returned home on Monday after being a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital London for a week. Get well wishes are extended. Michael Elford fractured a bone in his ankle recently. We wish him a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. David Passmore, Toni and Jon spent the weekend with Mrs. Myrtle Passmore at her trailer at the Klondyke. Honour helpers for Day Centre Volunteer Appreciation Night was held recently at the Huron Day Centre. The volunteers were treated to a barbecue and fashion show by the staff and summer students, followed by the awards presentations by the volunteer co-ordinators, Lois Fitzgerald and Karen Scruton. About 60 ladies and girls at- tended a bridal shower on Thursday evening in the church basement for Miss Donna Stewart bride -elect of this Saturday. To the strains of "I Love You Truly" played by Mrs. Reg Hodgert, Donna was escorted to a decorated chair by Mrs. Ivan Hern. The plat- form was decorated with nurses equipment, crutches, stethescope, red cross emblems etc. Mrs. Bev . Alexander welcomed everyone and was chairlady for the program. A reading "How to Cook A Hus- band" by Mrs. Gordon McCarter; piano selections "The Wedding" and "Singing In the Rain" by Mrs. Ross Ballantyne which was much enjoyed. A mock wedding was very humorous. Mrs. Hodgert played "Let It Be Me" and "Walk Hand In Hand" while the wedding party came to the front. The bride and bridesmaids carried bed pans filled with weeds. The minister was Mrs. McCarter. The bride was Mrs. Ted Ker - nick, the groom Mrs. Alex- ander, the father of the bride Mrs. Jack Stewart who was carrying a• gun, the bridesmaid was Mrs. Glen Lamport, the best man was Mrs. Glen Stewart. A very well worded poetry address was given by Mrs. Kernick, Lori and Lisa Ker - nick, Kerry Manders and Tammy Rohde carried in twin doll beds decorated with a red cross, filled with many love'y and useful gifts. After the gifts were opened, Denna thanked everyone for the many gifts and invited them to her Open House on Sunday, also thanked the ladies who planned the shower. Yard sales are success By MRS. Mrs. Clara Cunnington was a Sunday guest at the home of her son Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cunnington and family of Thames Road. Mrs. Florence Hodgins spent a few days last week with her son Mr. and Mrs. Keith Hodgins and family of Georgetown and on Sunday she visited with Mrs. Margaret Fletcher, Exeter. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Mac- Donald, Lucan and Tont and Mary Kooy were Saturday evening visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Carroll, Saintsbury. Mr. and Mrs. Brent Caslick entertained their parents. T -A photo Shipka centre meets tonight By MRS. HUGH MORENZ Shipka Joan Finkbeiner and Sher- rie Stade returned home from a 16 -day holiday in Saskat- chewan and Alberta, Wednes- day. In Saskatchewan they visited relatives at Wind- thorscand saw the R.C.M.P. barracks - in Regina. In . Alberta they visited more relatives in Taber and Oyen, with side trips Banff and the Japanese gardens at Lethbridge. Doug and Ann Russell returned Friday night from a two-week holiday in Ger- many. Their plane landed in Amsterdam, Holland where they spent a few days. They visited friends Raymond and Marie Louise Eisert, who are pig farmers living near Frankfurt. Other cities visited were Cologne and Rothenburg. After a ten-day visit here at the farm with us, our grand- children Persephone and Christian, their mother Lyn- da and John Little, left for home last Sunday morning in Inspection of 4-H gardens By ANNE WALPER Greenway Meeting No. 4 and 5 of Weary Weeders was held on July 16 at leader Loreen Gillis home when the members answered the roll call by reporting on projects and tell- ing about insects or diseases in the gardens. They talked about insects and methods of controlling them. Landscaping was discussed using the topics Simplicity. Balance, Propor- tion, Accent, Harmony and Unity. The Achievement projects were finalized. Since the girls will be judging vegetables at the next meeting, the judging procedure was explained. The members learned to judge and give reasons for their choice. The members gardens were inspected on July 18 b y Mr. M. McAlpine who was a very efficient inspector. The Little's spent several days in London visiting John's mother, brothers and sisters, also attended a Little family reunion. We spent happy hours with the grandies. Grandpa built' them a tree house, and they had pony and buggy rides, also rides on the tractor. Side trips included attending the "Polka Dot Door", at Huron Country Playhouse, visiting Grand Bend zoo, swimming in Lake Huron, to Storybook Gardens at Springbank, and to a movie, "The Never En- ding Story", in London. Lucille Vincent, accom- panied by daughters Lori and Michelle, spent a couple days in Michigan last week visiting with the girls' aunts, Janet Novarre and Beverly Kovit- zki, and grandma Mrs. Fred Hoffman and cousins. Elizabeth Russell celebrated her eighth birth- day. Sunday. Supper guests were Ann's sisters,Yiusbatlds and children, and Elizabeth's grandparents, Bill and Helen Sturdevant. All Shipka Community members are asked to attend a meeting Wednesday even- ing August 1 at 8:30 p.m. at the Community.centre. Sports Squirts baseball game July 24: Parkhill 28 "Shipka 8. STAN PRESZCATOR Jim Barnes, Parkhill and Stan Preszcator attended the Bluejays vs Texas baseball game in Toronto on Sunday. Mrs. Jim Barnes Parkhill spent the day with her mother Mrs. Stan Preszcator. Miss Brenda Glanville Lon- don spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Stan Preszcator. Miss Jody Armstrong celebrated her 10th birthday on Saturday. Five of her friends attended her party. Jacob Dye will celebrate his birthday on August 1 and Mr. and Mrs. Stan Preszcator will celebrate their 16th wed- ding anniversary on August 3. The Clark family held their reunion at the Crediton pavilion on Sunday. Don't fo: get next weekend for the playoffs of the ball tournament. Mrs. Norman Hodgins was the organist. The first reading was given by Lois Herbert and the se- cond by Kenneth Hoar. The Rev. Derrick preached his sermon on "Gods In- itiative". God chooses the people who respond to Him and by our decisions we tell the story of how we have com- mitted ourselves to Christ. Our initiative is to be consis- tent in serving Him. Personals Mrs. Fred J. Crouch has returned from an enjoyable trip to Williamsburg, Virginia where she was a guest at the Crouch -Newton wedding at Providence Baptist Church, Glouchester, Virginia. She also attended holy baptismal service for her great grand- son Warren Richard, son of Deberah Ann (Crouch) and Richard Den May, grandson of George and Patricia Crouch held at Bruton Parish Church in the Episcopal Diocese of South Virginia.
