Express lose two games
The Exetqr Express drop-
ped,a pair ()Names this week
in the Great Lakes senior
baseball league and a week
earlier failed to win in two at-
tempts in a senior tourna-
ment in Kincardine.
The Express dropped a 6-3
decision to the Clinton Colts,
Wednesday and were on the
short end of a 7-6 score to Kin-
cardine, Sunday. In the
tour y, the Express lost 9-5
to Woming and 8-3 to,Owen
Sou d. •
Tke local seniors were al
home to Thorndale last night,
Tuesday and will entertain
London Chester Pegg in a
doubleheader Sunday beginn-
ing at 12 noon.
In Wednesday's loss in Clin-
ton the first Exeter run came
in the opening inning as
leadoff batter Brian Mercer
was hit by a pitch, stole se-
cond and third and scored on
a double from the bat of short-
stop Dave Hunt.
In the Express fifth, Perry
Stover and Dave Bogart walk-
ed and scored without the aid
of a hit. One run scored on a
sacrifice fly by Walt
Parkinson.
Steve Pearce was the star-
ting pitcher for the Express.
He was relieved by Jeff
Fuller in the sixth frame.
Sunday against Kincardine,
the Express faced a 7-3 deficit
going into the bottom of the
seventh and final inning. They
scored three times to come
within one of a tie and ended
the game with the bases
loaded.
All of the Exeter scoring
came in the first and last inn-
ings. In the opening frame,
Dave Hunt and Walt Parkin-
son doubled and scored on a
walk to Kevin Hern, Doug
Fairbairn's fielder's choice.
The latter crossed the plate as
Perry Stover stroked a single.
In the seventh, Doug Hoff-
man and Kevin Hern doubled
and Walt Parkinson singled
and all three scored. Doug
Fairbairn's two bagger
knocked in the third run; but,
he was left stranded along
with Perry Stover who walk-
ed and Dave Atthill who was
safe on a fielder's choice.
Kevin Hern led the Express
at the plate in the tournament
loss to Wyoming with a pair of
singles each. Getting one hit
apiece were Walt Parkinson,
Jeff Fuller and Dave Atthill.
Against Owen Sound, the
Express managed eight hits,
Local bowlers
in Colts finals
A rink from the Exeter
lawn bowling club has
qualified for the Ontario Colts
triples championship to be
held August 4 in Brampton.
Sam Bower, Peter McFalls
and Marshall Dearing have
combined to win two competi-
tions leading to the provincial
finals. In their first triples
outing which is open to
bowlers over the age of 18
years with not more than five
years of experierce including
the current one, the Exeter
trio edged Stratford 15-14 to
win District 4 honours.
In the second stage of
playdowns in Seaforth Satur-
day, the locals faced competi-
tion from Wheatley. London
Fairmont and Woodstock.
After losing the first game
17-9 to Wheatley. the rink
skipped by Peter McFalls
defeated Woodstock 21-12 and
London Fairmont 17-8 to set
up a return battle with
Wheatley.
The Exeter men rallied in
the last end with a count of
four to win by a score of 5-3 to
take the Zone A
championship.
In Thursday's regular
jitney at the local club Thurs-
day night Stella Taylor prov-
ed to be best with two vic-
tories and an aggregate of 26.
Close behind with a score of
25 was Leone Brock. Next
came Velma }tuff 24, Ernie
Ross 22, Sam Bower 21, Rinus
Marsman and Charles Bendy
19 and Stuart Miller 18.
A score of two wins, an ag-
gregate of 27 and plus of nine
allowed Charles Hendy to win
Saturday's local competition.
Following in close order the
Luretta Siegner and Clarence
Down.
but, could score only three
times. Walt Parkinson had a
perfect day at the plate with
a double and two singles in
three plate appearances.
Delivering one hit each
were Brian Mercer, Paul
Gilmour, Perry Stover, Ken
Pinder and Steve Pearce.
Hully Gully
mid-season best
The houseleague mid-
season championships were
held at Hully Gully Saturday.
Trophies were given to the top
three in each class.
The track was in fast and
excellent condition due to the
track preparations and the
warm weather that we have
been experiencing.
The next houseleague race
will be July 28 when the fourth
round of the Summer Series
of Motocross will take place
at Hully Gully. The fifth and.
final round of the Summer
Series will take place at Hul-

Swim meet success
Saturday was the scene of
the second ICSA Swim Meet
of the year. The teams involv-
ed were Huron Park,
Vanastra, Clinton, Kirkton all
of whom provided excellent
competition for the host Ex-
eter swimmers.
First with 466 points was
Clinton followed by Exeter
only 82 off the mark with 384.
Vanastra was third with 195
followed closely by Kirkton
with 185 and Huron Park with
83.
The next meet will take
place in Clinton Satruday Ju-
ly 28.
