United churches
are combined
Combined Lucan-
Clandeboye Sunday service
continued July 15 with Wesley
Stanley, newly dedicated lay
preacher, in charge of the ser-
vice. His wife, Helen, played
lovely piano music prior to
the service and for the
choruses and hymns used.
Members and friends were
welcomed by Bernice
Lockyer, who received
special thanks from Wes for
arranging the donations of
cookies from the UCW for the
Interdenominational Vaca-
tion Bible School, just finish-
ed on Friday. Registration
was 143, with an average at-
tendance of 118 and it was
held at the Pentecostal
Revival Centre.
Wes told the children's
story based on "Trust" and
his sermon was taken from
several scripture passages,
the main one being Col. 3:17,
which tells us that everything
we do should be clone in the
name of Jesus. A "new to us"
chorus "In Jesus Name" was
to be taught, but, as often hap-
pens, the bulb on the
overhead blew at the wrong
time and it became a solo. by
Wes, which was even more
effective.
Combined services will con-
tinue, in fthe Lucan Church,
next Sunday at 10 a.m. with
Jim Robertson, also a newly
dedicated lay preacher, in
charge. Come and worship

Sermon on baptism
Sunday morning Rev.
Roger Mason spoke concern-
ing another ordinance of the
church, water baptism.
Reading Romans 6:1-4, he
showed that Christ instituted
water baptism as a symbol of
what Christ has wrought in
our lives. Why does the
church practice water bap-
tism? First because Christ
commanded it in Matthew
28:19. As Christians win peo-
ple for the Lord, making
disciples for Him, they are to
teach them how to be
Christians.
The Jews used to baptize
people who wanted to accept
the Jewish faith. John 4:1-2
tells us that Jesus' disciples
baptized converts. The second
reason is because the Chris-
tian church practiced water
baptism in the New Testa-
ment. All Christians then
were water baptized.

CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS
mon. tells people to repent, be
baptized, and receive the Ho-
ly Spirit. About 3000 people
obeyed. Many more instances
are recorded in Acts of early
believers being baptized in
water.
What is the meaning of
water baptism? It is an iden-
tifying with the Lord Jesus
Christ. When a person is bap-
tized in the name of the
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
it signifies that new Christian
belongs to God, submitting to
the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
Sunday evening accompa-
nying Mrs. Lorraine Ar-
mitage, guest Mrs. Ruth
Thornton played the organ
while Mr. Rick Thornton led
in singing. Mrs. Marlene
Thornton meaningfully sang
He Was There All The Time.
Rev. Roger Mason, from
Matthew 28:19 and 9:37-38
stressed the need for taking
time to pray for the need of
the peoples of the world.
Because of the TV coverage
on happenings around the
world, people can become
more missionary minded. -
Some of the effective
methods for prayer for mis-
sions are: take (he best possi-
ble time; to make time for
prayer; find a quiet place:
forget all previous failures to
prayer; fight all hindrances;
Luke 21:36, focus on the Lord
instead of the answer to
prayer; don't give up cons-
tant prayer; Luke 18:1-7; be
specific in prayer; plan your
prayer time. Matthew 6:9;
use your spiritual authority;
and find a prayer partner
Matthew 19:19.
Most Christian organiza-
tions have lists of mis-
sionaries to pray for. Because
many countries are closing
their doors to missionaries,
Christians need to pray for
their work.
Bible quiz
for Auxiliary
Wednesday evening the
Women's Auxiliary held their
meeting in the church with
president Mrs. Nola Murray
in charge. Mrs. Carol Butler
conductr;d a Bible quiz, with
two teams taking part. Mrs.
Nola Murray read some old
hymns, giving comments on
their meaning to Christians.
With Mrs. Butler playing the
piano, all sang hymns and
choruses.
Mrs. Elsie Melanson and
Mrs. Butler sang, "Worthy is
the Lamb". "The Song of
Love." Mrs. Murray led a
discussion on the difference
het C(' n a carnal and a
mature Christian, from
Psalm 119:31. and Proverbs
1:33.
After reading Proverbs
2:110. Mrs. Murray said that
the Lord will help us discern
right from wrong.
Interesting program

Friday evening the Com-
munity Vacation Bible School
held their closing program at
Lucan Revival Centre. With
director Mrs. Barbara Sloet-
jes leading, the program
opened with singing of 0
Canada,Then all the children
sang the theme song from
Matthew 17:5, This is My
beloved Son, in Whom I am
well pleased, hear ye Him.
Announcer Mrs. Carmina
Thomson did an excellent job
announcing each class and
happening of the program.
The Nursery class, with
teacher Mrs. Elsie Melanson,
and helpers, led the class in
singing. Then they all played
a part of a mustard seed. All
lay down as if asleep, then
they grew, coming up as a
plant growing. Then all
nursery class sat with their
parents.
With a boy holding a sign
saying Dr. Garmis, girls
holding a girl's cheer sign, a
boy holding a boy's cheer
sign, and a boy holding a sign
for both boys and girls, they
were led by puppet medicine
man in Monday's cheer. In
response to Jesus is my
Answer they shouted He calls
me to come.
With Mrs. Tina Sumners as
teacher, with helpers, the
Primary class sang Fishers
of Men, with actions. Tues-
day's cheer brought a sign of
a public library, puppet a
librarian, and the response
cheer was He speaks through
His word.
The Youth class, conducted
by Mrs. Annelies Butler, with
helpefs, capably acted out the
parable of the talents. They
showed how two men doubled
the talents given them by
their master, while the third
fearfully hid his. The good
workers were rewarded,
while the lazy maniwas cast
out.
The sign for Wednesday's
cheer showed a repair man,
with the puppet repair man
leading in response to Jesus is
my answer, as His love says
obey.
Mrs. Barbara Sloetjes as
teacher of the beginners class
led them as a rhythm band
playing and singing Jesus is
My Answ r. Then they, in
unison, slid the Scripture
verse. The sign for the Thurs-
day cheer showed a happy

The junior class, with Mrs.

the wise man built his house
on rock, while the foolish man
built his on sand.. When the
rains, and floods came, the
wise man's house stood firm
while the foolish man's house
fell down flat with a bang. The
group then sang The Wise and

Teacher Mr. Tony

that the answer was ready.
Each time a scripture verse
gave the answer, with the
children agreeing that Jesus
