Atom soccer teams split
In squirt action this week
Exeter 1 played Nairn II at
the high school and were
soundly beaten by the Nairn
squad.
The first half saw a lot of
midfield play but in the se-
cond half Nairn took over and
scored a 4-0 victory. In an-
other game Exeter II and Il-
derton played a very exciting
game with good scoring.op-
portunities for both teams.
In the scoring department it
was a real see saw battle with
Ilderton taking the lead and
then Exeter tying the score
with a goal by Shawn
McCann. Ilderton took the
lead again but Exeter came
storming back with Shawn
McCann collecting two more
goals to put the final score at
3-2 for Exeter II.
Two of Exeter's atom
teams saw action this week
with Exeter I playing Nairn
II. The Exeter team played
their best game of the.season
playing an excellent brand of
attacking soccer completely
dominating midfield play and
finishing off their chances.
Mark Lynn and David
Morlock supplied some ex-
cellent passes for their for-
wards to run on. Scoring for
Exeter were Jason Heywood
with four, Jason Coolman
with two and Ryan Linden -
field and Darrin Mason col-
lecting one each.
Exeter II did not do so well
in their game against second
place Ilderton. The Ilderton
team dominated most of the
game with the Exeter team
collecting only a few chances.
Final score 8-0 for Ilderton.
In mosquito action Exeter I
had a bye this week. Exeter II
travelled to Arva and were on
the losing end of a 4-1 score.
The Arva squad played just a
little bit better than the Ex-
eter team and finished off a
little better on their chances.
After three Wins to start off
the season the Exeter II
squad has now lost two in a
row and are looking to get
back on the winning track this
week against Ilderton.
Exeter III played an ex-
cellent game against Luca'h I

this week at the Canners. The
play went back and forth for
most of the game with Tim
Van Dam and Jamie Bedard
excelling at midfield for
Exeter.
The Lucan team took the
lead three times during the
game with the Exeter team
managing to tie it up twice:
But time ran out after Lucan
scored for the third time and
despite some excellent
chances by the Exeter team
Lucan I came away the win-
ner with a 3-2 score.
In pee wee action the two
Exeter teams met head on in
a game at the Canners field.
The Exeter II team trying to
avenge an earlier season loss
to the Exeter I team did their
best and put in an attractive
displayof attacking soccer
with the Exeter I team
countering with excellent
defence.
,First half score was 0-0. In
the second half the attack of
the Exeter II team became
more successful collecting
two goals for a 2-0 win. A lot
of credit goes to the Exeter I
team for playing so well, con-
sidering two of their better
players were missing.
The result of this game sets
an excellent stage for the
third and last game between
the two Exeter teams later in
the season.
This coming Saturday the
Exeter club will host its an-
nual atom tournament at the
high school. Come and watch
some excellent soccer.

Royals increase first place lead
The Exeter Royals increas-
ed their fust place lead to four
positions in the Southwestern
fastball league Thursday as
they defeated Bryanston by a
2-1 score.
The Royals were inFullar-
ton last night, Tuesday to
open a best-ot-three OASA
preliminary round playoff
against the Fullerton A's.
Their next league action will
be Thursday night at home
with the always tough Lucan
Irish providing the opposition.
In Thursday's game,
Bryanston opened the scoring
in the top of the sixth inning
as they scored a single run.
However, back to back
triples by Barry Baynham
and Randy Kraul produced
the tying run and the winning
run scored as Mike Desjar-
dine's ground ball was
misplayed for an error.
Starting pitcher Dan
Heywood hurled a strong
game for the Royals as he
gave up only three hits while
striking out eleven. Former
Royal pitcher Doug Todd took
the loss in relief of B. Parnall.
On the weekend the Royals
journeyed to Tara to par-
ticipate in tournament and
emerged as consolation
champions.
After an opening game loss
to Desboro by a score of 6-0
they rebounded with three
straight wins.
— Saturday evening the
Toronto Dodgers were forced
to withdraw from the game as
a player was ejected leaving
them with only eight players.
Sunday solo home runs by
Gary Skinner and Randy
Kraul and an impressive pit-
ching performance by Brian
Hodgins led the Royals to a
right 2-1 victory over a strong
Chatsworth squad.
In the consolation final,
