Ry MRS. IRVIN RAM
Doshwood
Eieonor. Salmon has retum-
ed home after a brief, but
busy, 23 -day tour of continen-
tal Europe. While her
itinerary was designed to be
a pilgrimage to the major
centres of historic European
Christianity visiting all of the
most famous Medieval and
Renaissance cathedrals she
was able to take in much of
the flavour of the major cities
of Europe - namely, Paris,
Nice, Florence, Rome,
Venice, Salsburg, Munich and
Amsterdam.
Cities are wonderful and
capture the imagination, but
the smaller cities and towns
fill the memory; especially
the unforgettable Chartres
Cathedral; St. Emilion, the
home of the Monolithique
church and the renowned
Bordeaux Chateaux and
vineyards; the Montpellier;
the perched village of Eze,
overlooking the blue
Mediterranean, exciting
Monte Carlo; unique Pisa;
medieval Sienna; beautiful
Assisi; the tyrolian city of In-
nsbruck; and the old univer-
sity town Heidelberg.
Eleanor's trip was jam-
packed with adventure and
surprise every day and she
has been spending her days
since Friday evening resting
and recounting her tales.
Besides glorying in her
visits to the grandiose
cathedrals, a particular
highlight was seeing the
marvelous day -long passion
play at Oberammergau. On
the way home, she wasable to
spend a few days in London.
England. reaquainting
herself with the city and see-
ing Peter O'Toole in
Pygmalion.
She has discovered some
special places to which she
will want to return one day
soon, but that will have to
wait as she has accepted a
position as teacher of English
at Women's Teacher College
in Zonkwa, Kaduna State,
Nigeria. She leaves for Ot-
tawa August 15 and for
Nigeria on August 24.
