"Red. Cloud" carrying rac- ing chairman and Past Com- modore, Len Hume, anchored. off -shore,- started each race with a BOOM as Christine Cramer pulled the trigger of the starting gun. Al Jefferys manned the flags, telling the racers how many minutes un- til sailing time and when to get ready. Throughout .the electrical storm, Hume waited for the first fleets to return and final- ly they started to arrive around 5:00 a.m. Sunday mor- ning.- Results from the two races were: in the PHF 'A'• division, 1st was "Surprise" from Sarnia YC, 2nd "Sand- piper" from GBYC and 3rd was "Tethani" from SYC. In the PHF 'B' division, first was "Straight Arrow" GBYC and second was "Pageant" SYC. In the Morcdivision, 1st in the "Arriba from PHYC, 2nd "Canadian Yankee" SYC and 3rd "Tracker" BYC. The IOR division hal all three winners from Bayfield YC, "Bearcat", "Rebel" and "Container" finishing in that order. Overall winner in the 100 was "Surprise" SYC,'claim- ing the Labatt trophy and the Oakwood Inn trophy for the Grand Bend offshore series. In the second race of 70 miles to Port Stanilac and back to GB, the PHF "B" division was won by "Night Music," GBYC, 2nd "Stolen Moments" GBYC and 3rd was "Abundance" GBYC. The steady overnight winds with the storm kept the fleet close together and many crossed the finish line 12-15 minutes apart. Whether you had the maximum crew of 16 or a minimum of four, I'm sure that the Grand Bend pier was a welcome sight early Sunday morning.
