Willie Heidebrecht, representative of the Board of Governors of the Craigholme, was chair- man, and Geo : e Freeborn gave an address of welcome. The guest speaker, Dr. Cape, chief of Geriatric Medicine at Parkwood Hospital, told about Alzheimer disease and stress- ed there is a chapter of Alzheimer in London. The purpose of the chapter is to let people know Ilrbout the disease, to offer Tamily sup- port, and, thirdly, research. Do you realize what Craigholme is doing in order to raise funds for it? Craigholme is raising money during the month of June. Won't you attend their bazaar, bake sale and flea market on Friday afternoon? A ribbon -cutting ceremony took place with Mrs. Shirley Hodgson and Dr. Cape cutting the ribbon declaring the Alzheimer fund raising drive officially open. Dr. Locke of Lucan and Ken Drudge were in attendance. The kitchen staff under the able direction of Mrs. Colleen Higgs served efreshments. Mr. and Ms. Donald W. Stewart of Goderich visited last Sunday with relatives at Craigholme Nursing Home and at Ilderton. Recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Veitch were Norman and Trudy, British Columbia, Paul, Blenheim, Bernice , and Albert MacGregor as well as Ruby and Russell, Dashwood. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Brunswick, Parkhill, visited recently with friends at Craigweil Apartments. Johnson, Strathroy, delivered a thought- provoking sermon "The Secret of Successful Service" to a full audience.of the Ailsa Craig Pastoral charge here in the United Church at the an- niversary Sunday, May 27. Sunday school teachers and children attended. The choir sang an anthem. Mrs. Lyle Stokes and Mrs. Roy Sutherland sang a duet. Three familiar hymns were used during the service, Rejoice, the Lord is King, Faith of our Fathers and Will your anchor hold. Greeting at the door were Mr. and Mrs. Dick Parkinson while Doug McNair and Jim McAlpine were ushers. Mrs. Don Clark and Ray Campbell presided over the service. Following this, a tasty pot- luck dinner was enjoyed in the Sunday school room by a goodly number. This was a "doubly" special Sunday in the life of our church. Going by bus while others travelled by car, about 90 from the Ailsa Craig Pastoral charge (Brinsley United, Carlisle and Craig United) congregations attended the service of Ordination, Recep- tion,Recognition and Com- munication for Ministers held at Pauline McGibbon Hall, Aylmer in the evening. A,s last names came in alphabetical order, our Pastor Ash became " Lteverend" first on the list and so the long awaited mo- ment had finally arrived: Congratulations Reverend Beatrice Ash. fitonday afternoon many friends, relatives and family attended "Open House" held here in the United Church. Many from the sister chur- ches of the charge assisted in welcoming visitors, especial- ly Mrs. Ella Tweddle, 94, one of the few remaining charter members, thanks to Mrs. Edith Hodgins, of the Craigholme Nursing Home, made it possible for her to at- tend and extend congratula- tions to Rev. Ash. In the evening a choir of 20 men and women New Life Singers from St. Barnabas Anglican church, London, delighted a good sized crowd to an hour of lovely singing. A time of fellowship follow- ed in the Sunday school room. Mrs. Laurel a Am,os, Brinsley, made h 'cake for -- the occasion. • Planting Pals The Planting Pals held their third meeting at Jean Crawford's May 28. We open- ed the meeting with 4-11 pledge followed by roll call. We took turns answering, "The name of the weed you found in your garden." Next we read out of the Hor- ticultural meeting three. Each member took turns reading about "Garden Care and Tools," "Flowers for Home and Beautification" and "Weed Identification." The club leaders and members discussed their Garden and Home Beautifica- tion projects. We finished our meeting by reading over the Home Activities to be com- pleted for the next meeting June 11. Mrs. Gayle Johnson, of London, was the audjudicator and Ken Blackler of Kirkton was the chairman for this event. From,the50 children who competed, Mrs. Johnson chose 19 numbers to appear at the annual Kirkton Garden Party on July 18. At that time the winners of each of the four divisions; vocal, instrumen- tal, dance and variety, will receive cash prizes. - The finalists were: Eleonora Kop, Bernadine Kop, Angie Nixon, Juanita Kop of Granton; Scott Triebner of Forest; Janice DeVree.
