Quebec camp this fall.
The Pooleys who are twin
sons of Bob and Audrey

Soccer year
set t start
This week the teams of the
Exeter Centennial soccer club
will be starting their season
officially. After a month of
practices it now is game time.
Again this year the Exeter
clubs will be 'participating in
the Luckn and district soccer
league.
At registration this year
new records were set with
over 200 children signing up to
play the game of soccer. The
record registration of this
year is a sign to the executive
of the club that their soccer
program is on the right track.
The coaching staff is ex-
cellent and these very
dedicated coaches and their
assistants will make sure that
1984 will be another banner
year for the Exeter club.
The 12 teams in five dif-
ferent age groups will be
playing' throughout the sum-
mer with playoff dates set for
early September.
The association wishes
everyone a good season with
lots of enjoyment and if there
are any problems they would
sure like to hear about them
personally, and rather not

Ferguson continued, "We
started watching the twin
brothers in the spring of 1963
at the playoffs at the Joe
Louis arena in Detroit and for
most of this past season. As
far as free agents were con-
cerned they were at the top of
our scouting list and I was
told to go and get them."
The Jets GM added, "They
continue to get better and cer-
tainly have the credentials.
Paul has been nominated as
Sporting News college player
of the year along with John
Casey of North Dakota who
has signed with the Minnesota
North Stars".
"Perry shows great talent
around the net and we will use
his left shot on right wing.
Glenn Anderson is an exam-
ple of how successful a right
winger can be with a left hand
shot," he concluded.
Paul led his team in scoring
during the 1983-84 season with
32 goals and 64 assists for a
total of 96 points in 41 games.
He was also captain of the
Buckeyes for the past two
years, was named to the All-
American team and runnerup
in the voting for the Hobey
Baker award as the top col-
legiate player in the United
States. He also eclipsed all
Ohio State scoring marks in
the three years with the team.

last week against Bryanston,
the Exeter Royals lost two
close decisions in Lucan on
the weekend.
Thursday against
Bryanston, who were league
finalists last year, the Royals
received a strong pitching
performance from veteran
Brian Hodgins. He recorded
seven strikeouts while allow-
ing .only four hits in a 5 to 1
victory.
Leading Exeter at the plate
were Will Lamb with a bases
empty home run, Randy
Kraul with an RBI single and
Paul McKnight with an RBI
double. Barry`Baynham chip-
ped in with a single and also
scored a run.
Friday, the Royals wasted
a good pitching effort by Dan
Heywood as they were edged
3-2 by the Lucan White Sox.
Heywood allowed just three
hits while striking six and
walking one.
.The leading hitter for Ex-
eter was Jeff Lindenfield with
two singles. Will Lamb, Barry
Baynham, Jim Allison, Gary
Skinner and Mike Desjardine
also contributed a hit each.

against the Irish in Lucan

copy of the loss to the White

Negotiations with the Win-
nipeg club have been carried
out for some time through
their agent Bob Murray, a
Boston lawyer.
Bob Pooley told the T -A
Monday morning, "We are
pleased that they signed with
Winnipeg feeling it was their
best avenue and happy that
management feels they have
a good shot at making the
NHL club.
ScottTaylor of the Win-
nipeg Free Press said Mon-
day night that he expects the
Jets will convert Perry who is
a left hand shot into a right
winger. He added, "A lot of
NHL teams are putting left
hand shots on the t side."
Taylor continued,
"Ferguson likes players from
US college teams and they
will certainly get a good shot
at making the club."
The Jets have three ex-
perienced centremen in Dale
Hawerchuck, Thomas Stien
and Laurie Boschman and
Paul will likely be battling
with the likes of Murray
Eaves, Ron Wilson and Tim
Young for a regular spot on
the team.
The Jets share a farm team
with the Montreal Canadiens
and any players farmed out
would go to either Sherbrooke
or Nova Scotia.
Paul and Perry will be 24
years of age on August 2 of
this year.
