South Huron will crown studeiitiof.tho year at Friday's
South Huron District High
School is honouring 12 of its
graduating students with the
annual Students of the Year
awards. Six male and six
female students were
nominated by the graduating
classes.
Grades 11, 12 and 13
students will vote on the final
two choices Wednesday and
Thursday. The top male and
female students of the year
will be announced at midnight
of the Formal this Friday.
The award recognizes
graduating students who have
contributed to school and
community life throughout
their years at South Huron.
Being honoured this year
are:
Darcy Ducharme, the son
of Paul and Joan Ducharme,
RR 2 Zurich. The 19 -year old
grade 13 student is the Social
Convener of the Students
Council. Darcy played
basketball and ran cross
country and was an in-
tramural rep. Ile plans to
study Chemical Engineering
at Lambton College next
year.
Ted Oke, son of John and
Joan Oke, RR 3 Exeter is
presently the first vice presi-
dent on the Students Council
and was an intramural rep.
He has played on the football,
volleyball and soccer teams.
Ted is involved in the local
4-H program. A 4 -year honour
roll student, Ted will be at the
University of Guelph next
year. He is 18 years old.
Dan Shute is the 19 year old
son of Helen and Mervin-
Shute,
ervinShute, RR 1 Kirkton.
Treasurer of this year's'
Students Council he was also
a rep last year. Dan ran cross
country, played volleyball
and basketball and par-
ticipated in the Badminton
club. He is involved in
baseball and 4-H. Dan has
been on the honour roll 'for
three years and plans to take
Business at Western.
George Tomes, RR 2 Cen-
tralia is the son of Tom and
Phyllis Tomes. He has sery-,
ed on th intramural Ex-
ecutive and is this year's In-
tramural Chairperson.
George is a photographer for
the yearbook. He was named
Sr. Boy Athlete last year 'for
his efforts in basketball,
crosscountry, and soccer. He
was South Huron's rep to
Athletic leadership camp and
also plays for the Hawks. An
honour student all his years at
South Huron, the 18 -year old
will ...study Engineering at
either Waterloo or Queen's
University.
Henry VanderBurght is the
18 -year old son of Henry and
Rita VanderBurght, RR 1
Dashwood.
He has contributed tc South
Huron as a student council
rep for four years and is
presently the Head Prefect.
Henry was on the wrestling
team and participated in the
Badminton club. He plans to
study agriculture next year.
Tony Wales lives in Huron
Park and is the son of William
and Dorothy Wales. The
19 -year old student has been
involved in both intramurals
and student council as reps
and on the execytive. He
plays basketball and drums
for school bands.
Alice Dietrich is the 18 -year
old daughter of Stephen and
Josephine Dietrich, RR 3
Dashwood. This year's Presi-
dent she was also a Student
Council rep for three years.
As well as playing baseball,
Alice was on the basketball,
cross country and track and
field teams. She is involved in
4-H and represented South
Huron in an all -Ontario recipe
contest. She carries out her
duties as Exeter Fair Queen
and Bean Festival Queen, and
will represent Exeter at the
CNE this summer. A three-
year honour student Alice will
study social sciences at
Carleton University.
Faye Gaiser is the daughter
of Don and Maida Gaiser,
Dashwood. She is currently
on the intramural executive
and has also served as a
classroom rep. She plays on•
the basketball, volleyball and
track and field teams. In
basketball she pthye' at the
Ontario summer Games on
the Regional team and has
° helped to coach public school
players. The 19 -year old also
plays baseball and is involv-
ed in 4-H and her hurch. A

Karen Hodge 1 18 -year
old daughter of , and Mrs.
Lloyd Roeszler who live in
Crediton. She is the Yearbook
editor, has been' a student
council rep for four years and
has helped with the school
paper. She is also involved in
4-11, baseball, her church
choir and Sunday school.
Karen plans to take Business
Management Studies at
Mohawk College.

Dave and Margaret McClure,
RR 1 Crediton is the second
vice president of the Student
Council. She has been a Stu-
dent Council rep for four
years and has written for the
school newspapers. She has
written SHDHS news in the
Times Advocate for the past
two years. Susan has been on
the cross country, gym-
nastics, volleyball and track
teams. She was the school's
rep to Athletic Leadership
Camp. An honour student
each of her years at South
Huron the 18 -year old will be
in England next year with her
family on a teacher's ex-
change before starting
university.
Catherine Patterson is the
18 -year old daughter of Hugh
and Pat Patterson who live in
Exeter. She was a student
council rep for three years.
She has excelled in gym-
nastics, cross country, field
hockey and track and also
plays baseball. She was
senior girl Athlete of the
Year. Catherine has been an •
honour roll student and plans
to take arts at University of
Toronto.
Lisa Rundle, daughter of

Allan and Marlene Rundle
RR 3 Exeter is 17 -years old
and in grade 12. Currently the
council's secretary, she has
been a student council rep for
two years. She was on the
newspaper staff and par-
ticipates in 4-H. She is involv-
ed in gymnastics, track and
baseball, and teaches gym-
nastics. Lisa was on the
honour roll for one year and
will be taking Commercial
Art at Conestoga College next
year.
The twelve students of the
year should be recognized for
their contributions to South
Huron. The final two choices
will be presented their gifts
by the 1983 Students of the
Year Jamie Chaffe, Sarah
McClure and Sandra Datars.
Spectators are welcome
throughout the Formal and
especially for the midnight
awards. The balcony of the
ofd gym is a perfect vantage
point to view the decorations
for an "Evening in Ancient
Rome". Formal organizer
Judy Van Oshas s worked
hard to transform the gym for
Friday evening. The band
"Traces" is performing for
the large dance floor.
