Those going from town were Mark Johnston, who tied in the boys' 1500 m. dash, Beth Sweeney, who broke the record in the 3000 m. and won in the 1500 m. dash, and Sheila Regier, second in the 3000 m. Good work and congratula- tions on all the ribbons you won. Golden Agers meet Zurich Golden Agers met Monday May 14 at the Township Hall with a good at- tendance. President Barrie Gandier opened the meeting with all singing 0 Canada, followed by the Lord's Prayer. The secretary's report was given by Flo Mur- ray, treasurer's report by delicious lunch, then euchre was played. A very nice program was presented by the students of the Zurich Public School last week which consisted of plays by the younger grades. Some sang in the background while - the senior students put on the "White Gypsy" play. Everyone taking part in the entire program is to be con- gratulated on a job well done. Land Sunday was celebrated at all the Catholic Churches throughout the Diocese last Sunday in order to pray for our farmers, crops and good weather. Seeds were blessed and brought up at the offertory. On Friday the school children brought tulips and flowers for the crowning of Mary. Dan and Carrie Eybergen of Waterloo spent the Victoria holiday weekend at his parents' cottage in Grand Bend, and attended her sister Heather's_ bridal shower on Sunday. Mrs. Eleanor Kyllonen of St. Paul's Minn. is presently spending some time with her daughter, Rev. Donna Kyllonen of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, who has been ill. Helen Denonune, Exeter, en- joyed spending a few days in Ottawa last week visiting with friends. Eight ladieshad a little get- togethercard partyand birth- day celebration for Ina Neeb and Eileen Consitt on Tues- day at the home of Gertie Fleischauer. Also last week Stanley has surplus Financial records for the year show that Stanley Township finished with a small surplus. The annual financial state- ment showed a surplus of $1,372 and an operataing budget of $1,100,000. Township Clerk Mel Graham noted that the .municipality began the year with an $8,000 surplus but con- struction costs on the new township hall reduced this by year's end. Clerk Graham also said that for the next year a major part of township expenses and work will revolve around the municipal complex completion. The new line will provide additional gas to the existing serviced area. At their May 7 meeting, council approved three dona- tions. MOVING HOUSE - The former residence of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Heyink on the northern outskirts of Hen- sall was moved to the Raymond Rameloo farm six miles northeast of Blyth. Hensall United Church There was an excellent at- tendance from the Hensall 1.0.0.F., Rebekahs and Can- ton Branch on Sunday morn- ing as they held their annual church parade to the United Church. Bob Taylor and Wayne Love were dhe flagbearers and Charlie Hay was Parade Master. The ser- vice was conducted by Rev. McDonald who spoke on the Samaritans' religion, relating it to Fraternalism. The choir sang the very beautiful "Amazing Grace." The Scrip- tures were read by Grant Jones, chaplain and N.G. Gerry Upshall. Greeting the congregation was Raye Jacobi and the ushers were 'l'royann Cole, Pauline Bell and Joanne Dayman. The children's story was on "Looking for the Good in Others,.. and Mr. McDonald used a newspaper with one article missing. Next Sunday JohnNoakes, Hensall native, studying for the ministry, will be the guest minister while Mr. McDonald will be attending Conference. The members marched back to the' I.O.O.F. Hall where a social hour was en- joyed and refreshments served.
