Huron -Perth championships
held in Goderich last week.

Susan McClure tied with
Joanne Smith, a distance run-
ner from Stratford for the
overall senior girl champion-
ship. McClure tied her -own
record to win the 400 m.
hurdles and also won the 100
m. hurdles. Fighting off a fast
finishing kick from teammate
Ja ' ui Cottrell McClure nar-
rowly won the 400 m. race.
Cottrell and McClure team-
ed with Alice Dietrich and
Faye Geiser to win the 4x100
m. relay. Trading the thrower
Geiser for Irene Dietrich this
South Huron team placed se-
cond in the 4x400 m, relay.
In her first year of senior,
Cottrell won the 100 m. and

Alice Dietrich was fourth in
the 800 m.
Doing well against very
competitive runners Mary
Lou Rundle place fourth and
sixth in the 3000 m. and 1500
m. respectively. Tracy
Ducharme was fifth in the
3000 m.
Faye Gaiser had a good
heave to place second in the
discus and was fifth in the
javelin. Kim Boogemans was
fifth in senior long jump.
South Huron's senior girls
Cowgirls
to flying
The Crediton Cowgirls
ladies fastball team started
off on a winning streak with
threewins in three starts. The
ladies don't play again until
Thursday, May 19 when they
travel to Poplar Hill for a 9:00
game and then host Parkhill,
Monday, May 28 also for a
9:00 game.
In the first game, the
Cowgirls had an easy win
with Poplar Hill forfeiting the
game with lack of sufficient
players.
Wednesday, May 9 they
played in Ailsa Craig and
came away with a very close
win 6-5.
The Cowgirls started their
first inning off right as they
batted in three runs. They
kept ahead of their opponents
in the third and fourth innings
with single runs in each and
then in the seventh Fay
Schenk crossed the plate for
the winning run.
Leading the Cowgirls at the
plate were Teresa Van Raay
. and Brenda Wilds with three
hits apiece. Adding two hits
apiece were Karen Williams,
Tammy Regier and Kelly
Heywood. Fay Schenk,
Marilyn Smithers, Judy
Steeper and Kate Steeper
added single hits.
Brenda Wilds was the win-
ning pitcher going the seven
innings on the mound.
On Mohday, May 14 they
travelled to Huron Park in
winter -like weather and came
away with a 15-12.win. After
four long, cold` innings the
game was called due to no
ti

creasingly competitive divi-
sion. The top three qualify
from Huron -Perth to WOSSA.
Sopth Huron will be
represented by a 20 -athlete
contingent in Tillsonburg.
The midget teams showed
great promise on the track•as
well as in the field.
Midget boy Mark Johnston
was a busy runner. He plac-
ed second in the 800 m. and
3000 m. and was a tired fourth
in the 1500 m. Craig Winbow
was fourth in the midget 800
m. and third in the 400m.Les

Leading the Cowgirls at the
plate was Kate Steeper with
three hits. Getting on base
twice were Marilyn Smithers,
Brenda Wilds, Wilma
Lagerwerf, Tammy Regier,
Kelly Heywood, Wendi
Schwindt, Pauline McCann
and Brenda Wilds. Adding
one apiece were Judy
Steeper, Brenda Curry,
Teresa Van Raay, Fay
Schenk and Karen Williams.
Kelly Heywood started on
the Mound with Brenda Wilds
coming in to relieve.
The Cowgirls will be
holding their ticket draw for
gasoline this Monday night.
They would like to thank
everyone who helped in any
way by buying a ticket.
Ladies golf
gets going
The new season for the
ladies Exeter golf club open-
ed May 8 with a delicious pot
luck dinner with 30 members
present.
Barb Harrison, the pres-
dent conducted the meeting
and plans were made for the
1984 season. A get well card
was signed by the ladies for
Note Smith who is a patient in
Florida hospital.
The door prize donated by
Hazel Westcott was won by
Irene Davis. Due to poor
weather conditions, the ladies
could not golf but enjoyed the
rest of the afternoon playing
cards.

strength and versatility by
placing second in midget tri-
ple jump and shot put and
third in the long jump.
Beth Sweeney's win in the
1500 m. and second in the 3000
m. led the midget girls:
Sweeney who played basket-
ball instead of running cross
country has shown promising
ability in long distance.
Another distance great, Lin-
dy Dillon was third and fourth
in the 3000 m. and 1500 m.
Jeanette Van Esbroeck held
Susan McClure
on to third place in the 800 m.
race.
In midget springs Barb
Lawson was second in the 100
m. and the 80 m. hurdles.
Paulette Rauthbauer is an
alternate for WOSSA with her
fourth place finish in the high
jump.

Dillon was also fifth in the 400

The junior girls 4x100 m.

because disqualification over
improper exchanges.

South Huron its eighth H -P
win with first place in the
junior boys long jump.
Glenn Durie showed good
form and endurance to place
fifth in both the 1500 m. and
3000 m. Durie was also fourth

start Sunday
The opening game of the
regular schedule for the Ex-
eter Express in the Great
Lakes senior baseball league
is set for Sunday afternoon.
The Express under the
direction of managers Geary
Penhale and Glenn Thurman
will meet London Ser-
vicemaster at Exeter Com-
munity Park at 1 p.m. •
Geary Penhale is optimistic
about his club's chances. this
year adding, "Look out
Tigers, we will match your
record."
Another member of last
year's Arva senior team has
been added to the Express
roster. He is first baseman
Walt Parkinson.

sixth in the 400 m. hurdles and
100 m. respectively.
South Huron had fewer
competitors this year but
quality will shine through as
the athletes strive to prolong
their season at WOSSA. The
first four finishers qualify for
the Regionals in Chatham
next weekend. Track and
Field is the only high school
sport to require this regional
elimination meet prior to OF -
SAA the all -Ontario competi-
tion. OFSAA will be held this
year in Etobicoke on June 1
and 2.
