Lee O'Rourke wins all -Ontario title in gymnastics
South Huron is losing its
greatest gymnast but a young
star is developing to take her
place. Catherine Patterson
competed in her fifth year at
OFSAA Gymnastics while
Lee O'Rourke made her se-
cond appearance at the com-
petition held last weekend at
Brock University.
Lee, a grade 10 honour stu-
dent won the all -Ontario in-
termediate bars. Coach
Carey Eddy was extremely
pleased with her protege's
performance, "Lee's bars
were fantastic." Her winning
mark of 9.2 was the same as
her WOSSA win and is . uite
an achievement since OFSAA
is so much more competitive
and tough judging.
Lee also had 8.5 out of 10 for
her hand -spring vault. Her
beam routine was a disap-
pointment, however. In the in-
termediate division Lee was

of a perfect 30. She was .25
'points out of second place,
marks that one less wobble on
the beam might have made
up.
The experience Lee had
from competing as an alter-
nate at OFSAA last year
lessened the nervous jitters
but Eddy noted that the petite
gymnast was quite excitable.
Goals have already been set
for Lee's next season where
she hopes to make it to OF -

Plan for
formal
The old adage that "Rome
wasn't built in a dao" is
holding true for South Huron's
Formal. Formal manager
Judy Van Oss has been work-
ing for the past months
preparing for the formal
whose theme is "An Evening
in Rome."
Tickets have been held at
last year's price of $6 per per-
son. The formal will be held in
the high school's small gym-
nasium on Friday May 25.
The band Traces will be play-
ing. Students will have the op-
portunity of having a formal
photograph taken that even-
ing by a professional
photographer.
The student of the year
awards will be presented at
the formal. The graduating
students will nominate six
male and six female students
leaving the school who have
contributed to the school and
the community.
Nominations will be held
this Thursday and grade
eleven, twelve and thirteen
students will vote for their
final two choices on May 23
and 24. The student of the
year represents the all round
student. This format was
adopted in place of the Queen
contest five years ago.

In her final appearance at

overall fourteenth out of

Catherine's best result was
