Royals ready
for new season
The Exeter Royals open
their 10th season in the
Southwestren Fastball
League, Tuesday May 8 when
they travel to Bryanston to
face last years league
finalists.
Their first home game is
May 10 when they will host
Sylvan. Game time is 7 p.m.
Theleague will consist of 10
teams with the two Lieury
teams from previous years
joining. The rest of the teams
include last years champs
Lucan Irish, Lucan Astros,
Poplar Hill, Nairn, Sylvan, Il-
derton, Bryanston, West Cor-
ners, Lieury and Exeter.
The Royals have been prac-
ticing twice weekly and have
a exhibition game tonight
against St. Marys Baird
Lumber Kings, last years
South Perth league champs.

team and Paul McKnight,
Mike Desjardine, Dan
Area pacers
set records
Area race horses are conti-
nuing to chalk up remarkable
records at various tracks in
North America.
At Flamboro Downs Friday
night, Roger B Quick won his
fourth consecutive race in a
rapid time of 1.59.3.
Roger B. Quick, a four
year-old gelding is owned by
Jack Morrissey of Grand
Bend, trained by Jim Mor-
rissey and was driven to his
latest victory by Dennis
Morrissey.
If was the gelding's 17th
victory in 37 lifetime starts
and he has never finished out
of the money.
Roger B. Quick was bred
and raised by Art Hodgins at
Clandeboye and is from Nan-
cy Bay, a Hodgins owned
mare and by Roger who was
an original Clint Hodgins sire.
Another Jim Morrissey
trained pacer set a North
American season record at
the Meadowlands on. the
weekend. Willow Wiper who
is owned by Bob Hamather
and has been troubled with in-
juries in recent years won a
$30,000 open pace in a time of
1.53.2.
Heywood, Phil Turner and
Willie Lamb who is back after
a year's absence will make up
the infield.
Gary Skinner, Dave Prout,
Barry Baynham who will also
play some infield, Al Lovell,
Jeff Lindenfield, and Jeff
O'Brien who played in the
Memorial league last year
with Strathroy will be in the
outfield.
Dan Heywood, Brian
Hodgins and Dave Prout will
be doing the bulk of the pit-
ching with Paul McKnight
also seeing some spot duty,
The team also is planning
on entering O.A.S.A.
playdowns. They are allowed
to add four or five players for
the Ontario playdowns. Sam
Skinner is back coaching with
Fred Cook back as manager.
The Royals tournament will
be held August 10,11,12, with
a new format and $800. first
prize money.
They also require umpires
for their home games who are
carded, mostly Thursday

Clinic at
Hully Gully
April 21 the first Motocross
clinic of the season was held
at Hully Gully near Varna,
with many young and not -so -
young students in attendance.
The youngest student was
eight-year old Randy Johnson '
of Kitchener, with riders ages
going up to 42 -year old Dennis
Larche of Woodstock. •
Chief instructor Chuck Col-
lins handled most of the riding
training, assisted by Jimmie
Dickins and Hully Gully team
rider Darryl Farrish, while
Jimmie's father, • service
manager Wayne Dickins took
care of the technical side of
things, as well as babysitting
the students' parents.
A special Motocross School
will be conducted at Rutty
Gully by Honda Canada on
May 4 and 5. "
South Huron vote
for student council
The voting population of
South Huron District High
School takes to the polls
tomorrow to choose its stu-
dent council and intramural
executives for next year.
Of the twenty-three
students running for office
more than half are grade
eleven students. The cam-
paigns have beeh quite low-
key this week. Candidates
answered questions from the
student population at the all -
candidates meeting Tuesday
afternoon. Despite the lack of
real issues in school elections
the candidates will deliver
their campaign speeches at
today's assembly:
Vying for the three posi-
tions of President, First and
Second Vice Presidents are
Susan Birmingham, Ilam
Brennan, Ron "Lattcy, Joe
Martens, Liz Martens and
Tina Rowcliffe.
Jacqui Cottrell and Irene
Brand are in a two-way race
for the secretary's office.
Wanting to be in charge of
the money next year are can-
didates for treasurer, Scott
Jesney, Rachel Mellecke and
Doug Woodburn.
Running for Social Con-
vener are Margi Chaffe, Tam-
my Durand and Drew
Hasselback.
A rush of nominations on
the final days saved In-
tramurals from a prior lack
of candidates. Claiming a
stake on the four -position In-
tramural Executive are Ken -
Darts in

dart league was completed
Friday night with each series

Huron, this year's Students
Council is attempting to run
the elections in the same
manner as municipal elec-
tions to give the students ex-
perience for their adult voting
years. It will bea trial year to
determine how the students
react to voting in polling
stations.
Cowgirls to
start season
The Crediton Cowgirls
ladies fastball team are star-
ting their season a week
earlier this year as they take
to the field on Monday, May
7 in Crediton at 9:00 p.m.
against Poplar Hili. Wednes-
day, May 9 they travel to
Ailsa Craig for their second
game.
The ladies team this year
