the Host U.C.W.
The guests er was Ms.
Joanne FaI rt, freelance
writer for the United Church
Observer. 4l'he topic for the
evening tvas "Pornography".
Ms. Fairhart stated that we
are living in a broken, hurting
world. Many problems are
caused by pornography which
is a five hundred million
dollar industry in Canada.
She said that pornography is
simply a harmful product
which must be regulated.
This sort of material causes
and teaches men to be violent
against women and children.
It has nothing to do with sex-
ual liberation. It is degrading
and hurtful.
The first speaker in a panel
discussion was OPP Con-
stable Greg Minnick, from
Mount Forest. He spoke about
the laws on the books regar-
ding obscenity. Since 1982 to
now the influx of video has
been enormous and a lot of it
obscene. The second speaker
was Murray Elston, M.P.P..
He reminded us that there
must be a steady flow of pro-
test to have any impact on
these problems of por-
nography. He urged everyone
to make their concerns
known. Rev. Wilena Brown of
Varna said most of us think
we are protected and assume
we always will be but we
should care because as Chris-
tian women we should help
other people from stumbling.

Switzer read a report of the
last meeting. The leaders told
us about soil nutrients and we

Recommendations. The next
meeting will be May 15 at 7:30
in the Kirkton Community
Centre. -
