course, the annual Bowlathon
which is the Association's
main source of funds.
The Association ap-
preciates the whole -hearted
support it receives from this
community, particularly
from area service clubs -
groups like the Legion and
Ladies Auxiliaries, the Lions
and Lioness, Oldtimers
hockey and many more - and
Aubrey and Grace Farquhar,
owners of the former Exeter
bowling alley, and Tony and
Marlene Bedard, proprietors
of the Zurich lanes.
The Bowlathon is the high
point of the year for Dorothy
Chapman. "To come away
from bowling, from watching
the matches function, to see
them laughing and talking
together, makes my day",
she reflected, her face
lighting up with the memory.
In Canada more than
400,000 children are growing
up in single parent homes.
Big Brothers and Big Sisters
Associations moss Canada
are working''with approx-
imately ip,000 of these
youngsters. Children are
waiting right here in the South
Huron district to be matched
with a Big Brother or Sister.
More volunteers are need-
ed, as board members and/or
Big Brothers and Sisters.
Many potential match -ups
hesitate, fearing they may
prove inadequate for this
undertaking. That fear is
groundless.
The Association stands
ready to help in many ways.
Besides the monthly meetings
there is ample opportunity for
workshops and seminars
where professionals provide
advice and training on how to
handle conflicts and other
situations. Liaison with the
executive director and other
board members is
continuous.
"A lot think they have to
handle things in a certain
way. They try too hard.
Relax. Laugh. Enjoy. The
rest will come", is Dorothy's
formula for making a com-'
mitment that will change
your life and make a lasting
contribution to the future of
our country - our nation'§
children.
TWO GENERATIONS - Larry and Scott Merner of Zurich were at Saturday's horse
show at the Crediton area farm of Adriaan Brand. They are shown here with a nine
week old colt and its mother. The show was sponsored by the Exeter horse and
pony club and more than 50 horses and riders participated.
