T -A photo Times -Advocate, March 14, 1984 Page 9 Minor hockeyists swarm over Rec Centre ice Minor hockey players swarmed over the South Huron Centre on the weekend as 36 games were played in the various divisions of the annual Lake Huron zone houseleague • hockey tournament. Overtime and shootouts were necessary in four of the nine championship games. In the pee wee A final, two Exeter clubs battled to a scoreless tie and nine players from each side participated in Schooling show on Saturday February 20, the Exeter Horse and Rider Club held their third meeting of the year at Marie DeBruyn's house. Many events were reviewed. Show dates are as follows: Schooling Show March 17 at Adriann Brand's 9:30 a.m.; First Point Show, Di[ay 19, at Exeter Fairgrounds 9:30 a.m.; Zurich Fair Show, Ju- ly 28 at Zurich Fairgrounds 9:30 a.m. Tentative dates: Hensall Fair Show, June 5 at Hensal Fairgrounds, evening; Crediton Summerfest, August 18 at Crediton Fairgrounds, morning; Zurich Bean Festival, August 25 at Zurich Fairgrounds, morning; Ex- eter Fair Show, September 22 at Exeter Fairgrounds, morning. A schooling show is coming up in a few weeks. Everyone is invited whether an ex- hibitor, volunteer to help out, or even an onlooker. As it is free, we hope to have many people and horses out there. Registration and member- ships will be taken at about 9:30 a.m. The clinic will com- mence at about 10 a.m. and exhibitors and horses may participate in the afternoon. A food booth will also be available there. The judge for this show will be Murray Smith of the Ex- eter Saddle Club. He will be judging and giving demonstrations on showman- ship at halter, equitation and pleasure.. Membership fees will be taken at this show. They are $5 per rider, $10 per family, and 50t per class (at point shows) to be cut off at $3. The point system for the point shows is five, four, three, two, one, from first to fifth place fdr all classes as long as there are six com- petitors. If less than six, you get the same number of points as people as you beat. ie: four people, you get first, receive three points. At the end of the year, there will be a banquet. Various awards will be given out in various areas and all first year novices are also eligible for a high point novice award. You are only eligible if you at- tend five out of seven point shows. (There is a possibility of another point show). The last area is the classes for the year. These are the classes to be used in the next seven or eight shows. Perfor- mance classes are: Showmanship at Halter, Junior A, Junior B, Senior; Equitation, Open, Junior A, Junior B; Open Pleasure, Junior A, Junior B, Senior; Open Trail Class, Only one refusal allowed (to be held at the end of the show). Gymkhana Games: Texas Speed and Action; Barrel race; Polebending; Keyhole race; Flag race and Rescue race. Fun Games: Potatoe race; Steady hand; Relay race; Egg and Spoon; Loose Sad- dle; Suitcase Race; Musical Ride; Bareback Ride; Novel- ty Class and Doughnut Eating class. Divisions are: Junior A - horse, junior to ride; Junior B - pony, junior to ride; Senior - horse, senior to ride; Pony -14.1 hands and under; Horse - 14.2 hands and over; Junior - under 18 years; Senior - 18 years and over. Games are two divisions: horse, pony. We hope to see everyone at the schooling show for a good time. DART SCORES The Turtles were the only team in the Exeter mixed dart league to score five points in Friday's regular play. Peter Lerikos, Laurie Chalmers and Mark D'Anna were the marksmen for the Mohawks hit final round The Exeter Mohawks have moved into the final round of playoffs in the South Huron intermediate D hockey league by eliminating the Parkhill Pirates in three consecutive games. The Mohawks, South Huron defending champions edged the Pirates 8-6 Thursday night to complete the series sweep - and qualify for the league championship round. The final competition for the Mohawks will come from the lienal] Sherwood or the Zurich Buckeyes. Hensall currently leads Zurich two games to nope with the third game going in Hensall last night, Tuesday. If Hensall wins Tuesday, the first game of the finals will goat the South Huron Rec Centre, Thursday at 8:30 p.m. In Thursday's game, Matt Muller led the Mohawks in the scoring department with a hat trick performance and one assist. Barry Baynham was the top playmaker with three assists in addition to one goal. Also scoring in single fashion were Brian Mercer, Mark Cronyn,BrentAtthill and Dave Jackson. winners while Todd McCann and Justin Charrette scored for the losers. In the tyke B title game one shot on goal in overtime enabled Huron Park to beat Hensall aftler playing to a 4-4 tie. Billy Hodge and Andy Glavin each scored two goals to pace the Huron Park scor- ing attack. Scoring in single fashion for Hensall were Danny Taylor, Jason Campbell, Chris Taylor and Blair Moir. Clinton won the B novice championship with two shots on goal in overtime after playing to a 1-1 draw in Exeter. Jamie Rolph scored the on- ly Exeter goal on a pass from Ted Hoffman. " Zurich blanked Clinton 2-0 to win the atom B crown. Jamie Regier scored on a pass from Paul Rau and the latter converted passes from Chad Willemsen and Chris Semple. Paul Charrette score the only Exeter goal on a pass from Brad Thompson in a 5-1 lass to Blyth in the atom A top game. In bantam B, Mitchell edg- ed Exeter 2-1. Jeff Hannah notched the only Exeter marker on a three-way effort with Shawn Moore and Brian Watson. Generais prosper in Strathroy event The Exeter Kinsmen Generals won two of their first three games in the holi- day Strathroy Winter Olympics. Ron Bogart's midgets lost 3-1 to Wallaceburg and then defeated Oakridge 3-1 and WIN TEXACO TROPHY — Bob Rowe presents the Texaco trophy to Gerry Smith, Brian Clarke, Dick Dougall and Jon Mousseou as winners of a challenge bonspiel at the Exeter curling club. The bonspiel was also sponsored by Pioneer Corn, C.A. McDowell and Molson's. T -A photo Stoneybrook 6-2. Steve Gould with a goal and two assists led the win over Oakridge. Chris Tiedeman and Jeff Pfaff were the other goal getters. Paul Mellecke and Scott Bogart added assists. Gould with four goals and an assist was best against Stoneybrook;Scott Lovie and Jim Lewis were the other marksmen. Hill Fisher added four assists. In the loss to Wallaceburg, the only Exeter goal came as Andy Lerikos finished a three way passing effort with Bill FisherandTerry Zachar. The Generals have a good shot at a medal in the seven team division. They play Kitchener Bruins Thursday night at 9 p.m. and are in action twice on Friday.
