French immersion Continued from front page setting up the program felt the amount of time spent on French Immersion was offset by the benefits. "The program is worth the difficulties," said Scully. Harrison's letter outlined 14 questions ranging from ask- ing if there are enough poten- tial students to the availabili- ty of textbooks and other r reference materials. "I would like to finish by saying that I have the utmost respect for anyone who is able to speak more than one language. Neither Mr. Harrison or Mr. Scott were able to attend the board meeting. The board debated having the French Immersion reports of the personnel and education committee brought in at its April meeting with some trustees saying it isn't enough time to discover the ramifications of French Im- mersion particularly as it could be drawing students from schools close to being •reviewed. But the reports will be brought in at the board's April meeting the same day it brings down its 1984 budget. There are now 239 secondary school teaching positions. Gryseels noted that there may be special considerations made regarding secondary school teachers, particularly at the smaller schools. As an example, he said if there was a small number, such as 10, of Grade 13 students at Seaforth Distri t High School requiring a spefic subject, a teacher may have to be hired to enable these students to receive their diplomas. There were staffing in- creases at both school's for the trainable mentally retard- ed (TMR) and student ser- vices. The TMR staff will in- crease by one teacher to 10.5 teaching positions and 1.4 positions will be added at the student services bringing that staff up to 17. Included in the teaching staff are four co-ordinators which will remain the same. Overall enrolment in Huron County is expected to go down by 1.6 percent or reduce from 10,029 students to 9,870.
