T -A photo Need one more win Mohawks lead over Parkhill The Exeter Mohawks have jumped into a two games to nothing lead over the Parkhill Pirates in the first round of playoffs in the South Huron intermediate D playoffs. The third game of the best -of -five series will be played at the South Huron Rec Centre tomorrow night, Thurday. Game time is 8:30 p.m. Brian Taylor led the Mohawks scoring with a hat trick performance and a pair of assists for a five point night. Getting two goals apiece were Mark Cronyn, Dave Jackson, Jack Chipchase and Rick Funston. Scoring in single fashion were Brad Datars, Dave Atthill, Brian Mercer and Tom Ryan. Best for Parkhill with two goal efforts each were George Jongeneel and Randy Turner. Scoring one apiece were Ron Mathers, Brian Martin, Steve Martin and Dan Lagerwerf. In Parkhill 'Sunday night, 'Tom Ryan was the leading light for the Mohawks with three goals and the same number of assists for a six point night and Barry Baynham was the top playmaker with five assists. Rick Funston was next in line in the scoring department with a hat trick performance while Mark Cronyn and Mai Muller each scored twice. Getting one goal apiece were Brian Mercer and Dave Jackson. Buckeyes bounce back, meet Sherwoods next The Zurich Buckeyes on the brink of elimination bounced back to oust the Centralia Col- lege Saints and advance to the South Huron intermediate hockey playoffs against the Hensall Sherwoods. After losing the first game of the best -of -three set, the Buckeyes edged the Saints 3-2 Thursday and were victorious Monday by a score of 7-4. The first game of the Zurich-Hensall series goes tomorrow night Thursday at the Hensall arena at 8:30 p.m. with the second in Zurich Sun- day night at 7:30 and the third in Hensall Tuesday night, also at 8:30 p.m. Four straight goals early in the third period enabled the Buckeyes to win Monday and advance to the next round. Steve Sage of CCAT scored the only goal of the middle frame. Wayne Thiel scored twice for the Buckeyes in the third period while Pete Gil, Ken Merner and Marvin Merner each scored once. Replying for the Saints were Brian Massechlin and Jamie Dewar. Rick Moody scored a pair of goals and Travis Postill add- ed a single as the Buckeyes tied the series with a 3-2 win. Pete Gil helped on two goals and Postill and Moody each picked up one assist. Scott Ut- ter and Brian Massechlin were the CCAT marksmen with Peter Irwin drawing the only assist. Kevin Geoffrey came up with great goal tending in the two final games for the Buckeyes and they got good performances from the kid line of Derik McKinnon, Paul Overholt and Ken Merner. The "Looking Good Kids" pre novice preci- sion team and the "Exeter Entertainers" novice preci- sion team entered the Mid American Precision Team competition in Fraser, Michigan, Saturday. Teams were entered from Michigan, Illinois, Virginia and Ohio as well as several teams from Ontario cities. The competition was tough and the Exeter girls com- peted against much higher population areas. The "Looking Good Kids" placed third in their flight and fifth in the finals. The "Exeter Entertainers" placed second in their flight and seventh in the finals. Much credit and apprecia- tion must go to Susan Riddell, their coach, of London, Ontario. - Congratulations girls! Pratt notched his second goal of the game on a pass from Fisher and Jim Lewis fired the second short handed Exeter score on a pass from Jeff Pfaff. The Generals came to life in the final period and scored five times. Three scores came on power plays. Five different players shared in the scoring. George Pratt completed a hat trick for the night on passes from Scott Lovie and Bud Richardson, Lovie hit the net on passes from Bill Fisher and Scott Bogart and Fisher converted a pass from John Hannah. The other two Exeter scores came from the sticks of Steve Gould and Bud Richardson on passes provid- ed by Pratt, Lovie and Pfaff. The championship final was • a well played contest with the Give...
