Van Patter Appreciation Night success
Appreciation Night for
former Zurich reeve Don Van
Patter and his wife Barbara
was a well attended and en-
joyable event. Of an
estimated crowd of 175, 163
remembered to sign the guest
book. Besides the large turn-
out from the village itself,
there was an excellent
representation of elected of-
ficials and other residents
from Stanley and Hay
townships.
The organizers of apprecia-
tion night will be presenting
the Van Patters with a
sizeable cheque, the net pro-
ceeds from an evening of good
fun and good fellowship.
A work -a thon and quilting
bee was held at the Lutheran
Church Hall last Tuesday
with a very good turn out.
Several ladies spent the day
there and as a result 27 quilts
were sent away to the mis-
sions. They also enjoyed a pot
luck supper.
Best wishes for a speedy
recovery are extended to
Harold Deichert who is a pa-
tient in University hospital.
He hopes to be transferred to
Exeter hospital this week,
and to Dorothy Finkbeiner
who is now in the Wingham
hospital. Anne Willert is a pa -

Thursday was a very
special day here. As most
people are aware, we have -a
nice canary that sings his
heart out, a kitten that is lov-
ed and cuddled by many of
our residents, and Mrs. Mia
Creces brought three little
Yellow Lab puppies to spend
the morning here. We
couldn't believe the reactions
of the residents. The puppies
were hugged, patted, held on
laps, one lady even sat on the
blanket on the floor to play
with them.
During this time, residents
couldn't help but talk about
the pets they used to Have that
could do almost anything but
talk. Finally like most babies
the puppies were exhausted
and stretched out on the
blanket to sleep. During the
afternoon, amongst the large
number of visitors, were
some tiny babies brought in
by the proud parents to visit
with the great-grandparents
and of course, most of our
residents love all the little
children that come. All in all,
it was a very enjoyable time.
On Friday evening, bingo
was played followed by
refreshments.
The Sunday evening chapel
service was conducted by
Rev. M. Mellecke of Zion
Lutheran Church.

We're glad you asked!
With
Bob Fletcher and
Iry Armstrong of
MAY I RECOMMEND A BOOK FOR YOU
TO READ?
In this column we usually answer a question
that represents a concern expressed to me.
This time we would like to recommend an ex-
cellent book by Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross,
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ON DEATH AND
DYING.
This book presents many of the questions
which have been asked of Dr. Kubler-Ross by
people who hove heard her lectures, attend-
ed her seminars or workshops on caring for the
dying. The answers found in this book relate
mostly to adults.
Death is still a subject all too often avoided in
thought and discussion - not because we do not
care, but because we feel so helpless and find
too many unanswered questions about this
final parting. This book can provide o
thoughtful and constructive guide.
