rain checks

February 7 the members of
the Riverview Women's In-
stitute met in the Masonic hall
with a good attendance.
President Nancy Harmer
opened the meeting with the
singing of 0 Canada and the
Institute Ode followed by the
Mary Stewart Collect.
The roll call was answered
by naming an advertised
special that was not available
when you got to the store. Be-
ing given rain checks by the
store Manager was one
answer to some of the
problems.
The motto was given by
Mary Sutherland "it is not
enough to know the cost, be
sure the quality is not lost."
A sing -song was conducted
while members of the skit
were preparing for their
parts. "Pack up your dishes"
to the tune of Pack of your
troubles, and Row, row, row
your boat was the tune of
another ditty which was sung
in rounds.
Then we were ready for the
skit"Shopping-fun or folly" by
Mary and her committee, Ef-
fie Harrison and Reta
Hughes. A brisk conversation
took place among these three
concerning some ex-
periences, some quite amus-
ing other quite serious.
This discussion was extend-
ed into the audience which
proved interesting and lively
as it took in groceries, dry
goods, hardware, toys etc.,
and as was noted, it wasn't
always fun. This provided lots
of laughs and the old say-
ing,"a laugh is as good as
medicine" was quite evident.
Minutes of the December
meeting were read and ap-
proved. Communications
were read by secretary,
Margaret Wilson. and
discussed as well as a trip in
June. The District Annual is
May 17.
Tweedsmuir history books
were on display, also an nice
display of really old Valen-
tines which were pretty then
too. Nancy closed the meeting
with the'Queen and Institute
Grace.
All sat down to a hearty
lunch prepared by Alice
Dickens and committee
which everyone enjoyed. The
-hall and tables were nicely
decorated with the Valentine.
theme.
An over -flout croSvd of 13
tables of euchre filled the Ac-
tivity Centre room Monday
afternoon.
Prizes were won by Edna
Clark, Evelyn O'Neil,
Christine Shepley, Norman
Tedball, and Mrs. Barker.
President Janet Rose of the
Activity Centre committee
welcomed all and invited
them to try the yum-yum
desserts prior to the card
game.
The following won prizes at
the Happy Gang seniors
euchre Wednesday: Shirley
Williams Sybil Stephenson,
Helen Smith, Nora Ross,
Theola Hotson and Roland
Neil.
There will be a pot -luck din-
ner February 29 followed by
euchre.
The Masonic euchre is
February 22 at 8 p.m. in the
Masonic hall.
Word has been received of
the passing of Mrs. (Ewart
Florence Jones, former
owner of the Jones

village. Sympathy is extend-
ed to her family at Long -
