Huron Tractor hosts farm, industry show, Monday, Tuesday
ADVERTISING FEATURE
Huron Tractor, one of the Canada will be hosting their
top John Deere dealerships In ninth annual farm and in-
dustry show Monday and
Tuesday, February 6 and 7 at
their Exeter north location.
Established 24 years ago by
Jack Van Bussel and Harry
Winters, Huron Tractor has
grown from a small two man
operation in Exeter through
many expansions and now
has additional dealerships in
Blyth and Walkerton.
The local farm machinery
company has been the largest
John Deere dealer in the pro-
vince of Ontario for 11 years
and tops In Canada for seven
years.
Huron Tractor is now joint-
ly owned and operated by a
five man organization. Jack
Van Bussel and Harry
Winters, the original partners
were joined by Herb Verbeek
in 1971, Earl Long in 1973 and
Bruce Hasselback in 1976.
The major building expan-
sion took place in Exeter in
1975 and a large 16,000 square
foot trade barn was added in
1981.
A new dealership was
established in 1979 in Walker-
ton with Dashwood area
native Wayne O'Rourke in -
charge as owner -manager.
The Trade Barn enables
Huron Tractor to merchan-
dise used combines and large
horse power tractors. It is the
only one of its kind in Ontario.
A unique feature at the local
company is the full ,use of
computers with all three
dealerships looked together.
Herb Verbeek commented
on this subject, "We recogniz-
ed in the late 1970's the need
for computers and developed
our own system and recently
formed a joint venture com-
pany known as PV'W."
He continued, "Com-
puterizing substantially
reduces overhead and in the
its area allows a much
igher and faster level of
service."
Earl Long said micro com-
puters will play a big part as
another piece of farm
machinery to better project
expenses \and analyze
marketing commodities."
Long went on to say that
John Deere is number one in
the business and they expect
us to be the same. Some of our
success is due to John Deere's
emphasis on equipment
which is adaptable to this
area. Our combines have no
peer as all-weather and crop
machines."
Original partner Jack Van
Bussel says, "I have many of
the same customers we had in
1960. They still come back to
me to do business and our suc-
cess is due to the many pro-
gressive farmers in the area
and our many long-term and
loyal employees."
Leasing has become a big
fart of Huron Tractor
business in 1983 according to
Long. He added, "With leas-
ing farmers are ne longer
caught up in the ownership of
major pieces of equipment
and recognize this as a vehi-
cle to better management of
assets."
The Farm and Industry
Show at Huron Tractor will be
open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on
Feburary 6 and 7 and a half
hour auction of small articles
will be held each day with
proceeds going to charity.
